Chapter 21: Blood in the Dark

The cultist in front raised a hand—a crimson glow flickered around his fingers.

Magic.

"Move!" I shouted.

Rhia reacted instantly, leaping to the side as a fireball exploded against the tunnel wall. The shockwave sent dust and debris flying, making my vision blur.

I coughed, tightening my grip on the egg. We couldn't afford to get cornered.

[System Notification!]

[Hostiles Identified: Dragon Cult Acolytes (Level 7-9)][Abilities: Fire Manipulation, Enhanced Reflexes][Danger Level: High]

Damn it. They were stronger than me.

But that didn't mean I was helpless.

A Goblin's Instinct

I activated [Analyze] and focused on the lead cultist.

[Target: Cultist Pyromancer – Level 9][HP: 320/320][MP: 210/250][Abilities: Fireball, Heat Cloak, Ember Step]

I barely had time to process the information before he vanished.

"Left!" Rhia cried.

I barely dodged as he reappeared, his fist wreathed in flames. The heat seared my cheek as I staggered back.

He's fast. Too fast.

Rhia lunged at another cultist, her dagger flashing in the dim torchlight. A shriek followed as she slashed his arm open.

But there were three of them. And only two of us.

I had to tip the scales.

A Gamble with Power

"System!" I called out. "Show me my abilities!"

[Leon Velcroft – Goblin Outcast][Level: 6][HP: 198/250][MP: 50/120]

[Abilities:]

[Analyze] (Active) – Allows user to inspect enemies' stats.[Predator's Instinct] (Passive) – Increases reaction speed against stronger opponents.[???] (Locked – Requires Catalyst)]

My eyes locked onto the last ability. A locked skill?

And it needed a catalyst to activate?

I didn't have time to figure it out.

The cultist lunged again.

I reacted on instinct, raising my dagger.

Steel met fire.

The impact sent a shockwave through my arms, but—

For the first time… I was keeping up.

A Predator Awakens

Something inside me clicked.

[Predator's Instinct Activated!]

The world slowed.

The cultist's movements became clear—the way his muscles tensed before a strike, the flicker of mana before he cast another spell.

I ducked under a flaming punch and countered—my dagger slashing across his chest.

A deep gash opened, making him stumble back.

His golden eyes widened in shock.

"You little—!"

Before he could finish, Rhia struck from behind.

Her dagger plunged into his back.

He let out a choked gasp before crumpling to the ground.

One down.

The Final Stand

The remaining two cultists hesitated. They hadn't expected resistance.

I wiped the blood from my dagger and grinned.

"Still think we're easy prey?"

The tunnel fell silent.

Then—one of them ran.

The other? He clenched his fists. His mana flared.

I tightened my grip. This fight wasn't over yet.
