Chapter 11

Katherina grabbed her phone from the stand and proceeded to text Mason. She had her doubts though..

She felt she was acting out of impluse due to her pregnancy. Her thoughts drifted back to Xavier and she couldn't help but sigh.

She wondered what she was to him. Katherina wasn't ready to tell him yet about her feelings for him as she thinks it wa just a silly crush after all they only talk on sex basis. She wasn't satisfied though, she wanted more from him.

Xavier's capable of taking care of her after all he was the most feared and most richest. Not that Mason couldn't, but she felt nothing to him anymore.

Katherina thought back at the time she met Mason. She was on a journey to visit her dying father who had been sick then almost to the point of death. Katherina felt distabilized as she was about to lose someone who had cared for her all her life. Her mother was a different story entirely. So you could imagine how she felt when she got the news of her father dying.

She was on a plane almost at the point of tears when she felt a hand tapping her shoulders. She glanced at the person and was surprised to see an handsome well cleaned young man. His scent enveloped her mind as she stared at him.

Katherina was amazed at how someone could be that good looking.

"Are you okay?" He asked with a deep voice that made Katherina swoon.

"Urmm... Yea" she managed to blurt out with a shy smile on her face.

Mason smiled at her, "what's making a beautiful Lady like you look sad"

Katherina blushed at his compliment, he's a sweet talker, she said to herself.

"Oh.. nothing really, I just got news of my father's illness"

Mason looked at her, respect and curiosity clearly shining in his eyes, it wasn't everyday you see a girl caring deeply for her father in their society, after all most of them were abandoned by their father.

"I'm so sorry, hm.. what happened to him if i may ask"

"He got diagnosed with cancer two years ago and he's been battling with it. I guess he got tired and his condition worsened" Katherina answered with pure love and pain shining in her eyes, "he's tried so much for me" she said with teary eyes. The thought of losing her father scared her to the core.

Mason smiled gently at her, wiping her tears with his thumb, "hey hey, nothing's gonna happen to him".

Katherina felt her heart warmed at his comfort, he didn't know her yet he comforted her as if he knew her.

"What's your name?" She looked up at him.

"Mason, Mason knight" he gazed at her softly.

"I'm Katherina, nice to meet you Mason", she smiled brightly.

Mason smiled and said nothing else, they both held hands throughout the flight clearly enjoying each other's company. They found comfort in themselves.

When the plane landed, she bade him goodbye clearly forgetting to get his contact.

Well, i guess it was only a one time thing, she thought to herself, after all you only meet people once sometimes..

Two days later, her father was rushed to the hospital clearly needing an operation to be carried out on him. Katherina was distraught. Mason was at the hospital to visit a friend when he sighted Katherina staring off into space. Be guessed she was here because of her dad and headed toward her so he could talk to her.

Katherina felt grateful to see him and they talked on length about things. He helped in distracting her about the issue on ground because she was sure if he didn't show up, she also will be on a hospital bed by now.

The doctor came out of the operation theater and with the look on his face, Katherina could tell what had happened. Her father didn't make it. She burst into tears wailing loudly, wishing she has one last chance to tell him how much she loved him.

Mason stood by her comforting her, he felt pained on seeing her tear streaked face and held her in his arms.

Katherina remembered her father's last word the night before, Katherina Johnson, I love you so much, take good care of yourself and don't cry when I'm gone, I'll always watch over you. Katherina cried as she remembered those words, she felt pained that she didn't tell him how much he meant to her, she told him not to say stuffs like that because he was going to make it through the illness.

Katherina snapped back to consciousness as she remembered her father's death. Staring at the phone in her hands she decided not to text him anymore. She still had to think clearly about it before she made any decisions.
