Chapter 26: Into the Ravine

The Grimknights pushed forward into the dense forest leading toward Ghea Mountain. Towering trees loomed over them, their thick canopies allowing only slivers of light to pierce through, casting eerie shadows on the moss-covered ground. The air was damp with the scent of earth and decay, the silence broken only by the occasional rustling of unseen creatures in the underbrush.

"Stay sharp," Henry muttered, gripping his shield tightly. "These bandits aren't ones to let us walk freely toward their home."

Elric adjusted his grip on his mace and flail. "Let them come. My mace and flail thirsts."

The words had barely left his mouth when an arrow whizzed past his ear, embedding itself in a nearby tree.

"AMBUSH!" Henry bellowed.

Bandits emerged from the foliage like wraiths, their weapons gleaming in the dim light. They attacked with a wild frenzy, swinging curved blades and firing arrows from hidden vantage points. The Grimknights met the assault with brutal efficiency.

Bjorn roared and swung his axe, cleaving through one bandit's chest as another lunged at him. Henry bashed an attacker with his shield, sending the man sprawling into the dirt before punching his gauntlet into his face. Espada, with her scimitar, nimble as ever, danced between enemies, slashing through leather armor with precise strikes.

Elric, wielding his flail, shattered the skull of a mounted archer, his horse rearing and throwing its rider lifelessly to the ground. "We need to take out those archers!" he shouted.

Espada nodded and sprinted toward the treetops, using the branches as stepping stones to reach the hidden bowmen. With quick, silent movements, she dispatched them, their bodies falling like broken puppets.

Meanwhile, Kaiser stayed close to Mariposa, cutting down any enemy who came near. The bandits, realizing they were outmatched, retreated into the forest, leaving behind only their fallen comrades and the echoes of their battle cries.

Panting, Henry wiped his gauntlet on a fallen bandit's cloak. "We move. There's no telling how many more of them lurk ahead."

As they pressed on, they came across an abandoned encampment. The remains of broken tents and rusted weapons scattered across the clearing painted a grim picture.

"Looks like this place was raided long ago," Elric muttered, kicking over a charred wooden post.

"Then it means someone else also fought these bandits," Henry said. "That only strengthens our cause. We end them here."

Before they could continue their search, guttural growls echoed through the trees. A pair of gleaming yellow eyes emerged from the shadows, followed by another... and another.

"Lycan wolves," Elric hissed, gripping his weapon. "These forests are teeming with monsters."

The beasts lunged with terrifying speed. One massive wolf sank its fangs into Bjorn's arm, but the warrior slammed his forehead into the creature's snout, forcing it to release him. Henry drove his gauntlet into another's ribs, while Espada severed a beast's spine with a swift slice.

Kaiser stood firm, deflecting the lunges of the creatures with his shadow blade, while Mariposa holding a stick unsure what to do. The battle was fierce, but eventually, the Grimknights stood victorious, panting as the bodies of the monstrous wolves lay motionless around them.

Elric wiped the blood from his weapon. "This place will only get worse the deeper we go."y

Espada sheathed his scimitar. "Then we must be ready for whatever comes next."

Part 2: Choosing the PathThe group gathered to discuss their next course of action. The forest was growing thicker, and they knew more ambushes were likely. Elric knelt down, tracing a crude map in the dirt.

"We have two choices," he said. "We either continue through this cursed forest, risking more bandit ambushes, or we take that ravine." He pointed to a jagged break in the terrain that led into darkness. "I don't know what awaits us there, but it might be less predictable."

The group exchanged glances, weighing their options. Then, they noticed Nyx, Kaiser's liemur pet, staring toward the cave-like opening of the ravine with keen interest.

"Why not take the cave?" Mariposa suggested, crossing her arms. "Nyx seems drawn to it. That has to mean something."

Kaiser shrugged. "Not much of a choice if we don't know what's inside. But at least it's not another bandit ambush."

Henry nodded. "We rest here for the night. At dawn, we enter."

They made camp just outside the ravine's entrance, the dim glow of their fire barely pushing back the darkness surrounding them. As they ate, they exchanged stories of battles past, trying to keep their spirits high.

Elric chuckled. "Remember when we fought the Chutulu nomads at Mountains Point? Nearly lost my mace trying to crack their skull."

Espda grinned. "Yeah, and it nearly cracked yours instead."

Even Henry allowed himself a rare smile. "Tomorrow will test us. Rest while you can."

As the fire flickered, shadows danced along the ravine's entrance, hinting at the darkness waiting within.

Dawn broke, casting a dull glow over the ravine's jagged cliffs. The air had changed. It was colder now, laced with an unnatural stillness. The Grimknights approached the entrance, weapons drawn, senses alert.

The moment they stepped inside, an overwhelming stench filled their lungs. It was decay, thick and suffocating, clinging to every surface of the ravine's walls.

"This place reeks of death," Espada muttered, covering her nose.

Kaiser frowned. "It would be a waste of time to turn back now."

Henry took the lead. "Stay close. We go in slow."

The deeper they ventured, the heavier the darkness became. Their torches flickered wildly, as if struggling against an unseen force. Then, from the abyss, a presence made itself known.

A massive shadow loomed ahead, its form twisting unnaturally. It had no defined shape, only shifting masses of darkness, its monstrous aura pressing down on them like an invisible weight.

Mariposa shivered. "What... is that?"

Then, it moved.

A deep, guttural growl reverberated through the cavern, sending tremors beneath their feet. The shadow expanded, shifting into a grotesque form—long, clawed limbs emerging from its mass. It let out a chilling screech, shaking the very walls of the ravine.

Henry steadied his sword. "Prepare yourselves. We fight."

"You dare enter my domain?" - the monster slowly showing itself. It was a huge, ape-like monster but towers with its height. Elric spoke "I heard of this one before, the Child of Hector, it was believe that this thing qas given to the demons as sacrificed return for a sum of genny. Then the demons turned child to this horrrfic monster.

The monster shouted, "That is not true, my father loved me!" then a swinging arms trumples the Grimknights. " You shall perish among this people who died here".

How will the Grimknights have to deal this monstrous obstacle in the ravines?
