Chapter 38: The Rumors were True

"So you are Mr. Mo's wife? I did not expect his wife to be so young and beautiful."

"Don't flatter me Mr. Mayor, I am just average at most." Weiwei knew that she was beautiful but was not narcissistic enough to think that she was a beauty who would be admired by everyone. But then that is what made her even more outstanding, the fact that she was not aware of her own level of beauty. Anyone else would be blushing and secretly become arrogant from being praised by the mayor, but she was humble.

The mayor could not help but admire her. 'No wonder she is Mo Shian's wife. Indeed, how simple could that devil's wife be?' Thought Mayor Yen.

"Thank you Mrs. Mo for the warning you just gave me. I will have my car inspected before daring to drive it. I will invite you and Mr. Mo for a meal to thank you properly when there's a chance."

"I will not refuse your kind intentions then. I need to go. My husband is already waiting for me and must be worried that I haven't arrived yet." As if to confirm her statement, Weiwei's phone rang at this moment. She could not help but smile. It was as if there was telepathy between the two of them.

She picked up the phone and answered it.

"Hi Shian." She said in a sweet voice that could melt any snow.

"Hey baby, have you left home yet?"

"Am already in the lobby, I'll be up in a minute."

"I'll come down and get you."

"No need for that. I already know the room number. I will be there soon. Wait for me."

"Okay baby, I will be waiting."

They were standing at a quiet corner so even though their voices were not loud, the mayor could hear their conversation clearly. He could not believe that the guy talking in such an endearing tone was that man known as a devil in the business world. He could actually talk to someone with such thick love and patience. Indeed, no one could escape the trap of love. Even such a ruthless and heartless man was not spared.

"Mr. Mayor, I need to go. If I don't show up in two minutes then my husband will definitely come looking for me. Just be careful who you talk to about the car issue. It's better to keep it to yourself for the time being before you figure out who the enemy is." Weiwei advices him about this because she was afraid that he will go out and tell the people outside what they had talked about. That way the deputy mayor will find out his plot had been discovered and erase all traces, or perhaps weave another scheme that the mayor won't the able to escape.

"I understand, thank you for the reminder. Go to your husband before he shows up and blames me for keeping his wife." Mayor Yen smiled as joked.

The two said goodbye and walked in opposite directions.

Mayor Yen's smile turned serious when he turned around. Knowing that the girl was Mo Shian's wife, he was sure that she would not make up a story just to attract his attention. Then she must really have seen something. Someone must have tampered with his car. The elections would not be done for another two years. So, it was definitely not his rivals for the governor seat who had done it. Besides, he had not told anyone yet about his plan to run for governor.

So, who would want his life? He had a few suspicious individuals in mind but without concrete evidence, he could not accuse them. Right now, he could only be wary of everyone as the girl had suggested. With the enemy in the dark and him in the light, he must be extra careful.

He walked out of the hotel and walked to the parking lot as if nothing had happened and he knew nothing about the car.

He found that the secretary general had left, but the deputy mayor was still there. He had been talking to Xia Weiwei for over ten minutes, he did not expect that the deputy mayor would still be waiting. Even though they were superior and his deputy and worked together in most projects, they were not that close friends that they have so much patience to wait for each other no matter the circumstances.

At this moment, a thought formed in his mind. 'Could the car issue be related to the deputy mayor? Was he waiting here to make sure that I got into the car?' It was just a thought, but at this moment, everyone was a suspect. He could not be careless.

"That girl really kept you for a long time. She said it would only take two minutes, but it became more than ten minutes." Deputy mayor Feng complained. She was just a little girl but was bold enough to demand talking to the mayor. He was anxious for his plan to work and anyone who delayed it would not get a positive attitude from him.

"That girl is Mo Shian's wife. I am glad she stopped me as I got to discover another sid of that devil."

"You are saying that the rumored wife really exists and it is that little girl? She looked like a teenager!"

The deputy mayor could not believe that the rumours were true.

"Indeed, I was as shocked as you are when I found out too. Let's get going, the meeting will start at 8. Pm and it's already a few minutes to 6 pm. I have to pass by the office and grab some information I forgot to take."

"Alright then, just drive carefully. I hope you can make it to the meeting on time." The deputy mayor said.

Anyone would have thought that was a normal statement, but with what the mayor knew, he could pick up another meaning from it. What did he mean by hope he could make it to the meeting on time. It was just picking up documents from the office which would not delay anything.
