Chapter 24

The Resistance encampment had never been so tense. Ravyn-9 stood in the center of the war room, his steel frame reflecting the faint light of the glowing tactical screens. Ayla’s eyes burned into him, her trust fraying with every passing moment. The last mission had been a disaster, and though Ravyn had managed to save her, the betrayal within their ranks left an open wound.

“How do we even know this information is reliable?” Sorin spat, slamming a hand on the table. His voice was venomous, and the edges of his mouth twisted into a sneer. “You’re asking us to risk everything again based on intel from him?”

Ayla glanced at Ravyn-9. His expression—or the approximation of one—was stoic as always, but there was a flicker of something in his glowing eyes. Was it hurt? Doubt? For a machine supposedly devoid of emotion, he wore his humanity like a curse.
