Chapter 4

Alec suddenly felt a bit uneasy. He leaned down guiltily, intending to kiss me, but I naturally dodged it.

My unusual behavior made him want to appease me, but the phone on the other end rang again.

Alec gently coaxed Isadora, saying he'd be there soon.

"I'll be back quickly, Faye."

After saying this, Alec vanished like a gust of wind.

I watched his retreating figure again, silently affirming my thoughts.

That is, to leave Alec.

The day after finishing my IV drip, I was discharged from the hospital.

As I had expected, Alec didn't show up. It was the driver who came to pick me up.

Arriving home, I found Alec sitting on the couch reviewing contracts. Seeing me, he only casually asked how I was doing.

I wasn't in the mood to deal with him and went straight upstairs.

Upstairs, I suddenly received a call from our family's butler.

The butler said Dad had a heart attack and was near death, asking me to see him one last time.

Hearing this news, my limbs went weak, and tears instantly welled up in my eyes.

Not daring to waste time, I stumbled downstairs.

Alec was also hurriedly heading out the door at that moment.

It was snowing heavily outside, so the driver had already brought the car to the entrance to wait.

Alec strode into the car.As the snow fell relentlessly, I frantically thrust my hand out to stop the car door from closing.

The automatic door slammed shut, crushing my hand and turning it an angry red.

Seeing my injury, Alec's face contorted with visible panic. He hurriedly pressed the button to open the door.

"Are you crazy?!"

"Please, Alec, take me to the hospital first! I'm begging you!"

I broke down in tears, letting the icy snowflakes land on my face.

Alec rarely saw me like this, and for a moment, he was at a loss.

But he still spoke up, "Isadora had a nightmare during her nap and now she's running a fever. She's very unstable right now, and I need to go check on her. If you're not feeling well, just grab a cab to the hospital yourself."

With that, Alec pressed the button to close the door.

Even as I pounded on the car window from outside, he still instructed the driver to drive away.

I chased after his car in the heavy snow, sobbing.

In my emotional state, I tripped over my own feet.

There happened to be a large, jagged rock in front of me, and I cracked my head on it, causing a bloody gash.

But even the sight of my blood dripping down didn't soften his heart.

It wasn't easy to get a cab at the mansion, and I couldn't drive any of the cars in Alec's garage.

In the end, I could only force myself to stand up, fighting through the pain, and trudge through the heavy snow alone to flag down a ride outside the gated community.I rushed into the hospital without even bothering to brush off the snow from my clothes, disregarding my own injuries as I sprinted inside with all my might.

But I was too late. Dad didn't hold on long enough for me to see him one last time.

"Miss, the master passed away five minutes ago. His final wish was to see you one last time."
