Chapter 6

Although I didn't believe it, at that moment I felt incredibly vulnerable and instinctively wanted to rely on Alec.

So even though I spent three days crying alone, I still held out hope that Alec would call me back.

However, on the third night when I opened my social media, I discovered that he had been on a getaway trip to New York City with Isadora for these three days.

They had a candlelit dinner at the restaurant closest to the Empire State Building.

They set off expensive fireworks on the most romantic beach.

They clung to each other while watching marine life at the aquarium.

And all of these were things Alec had promised to do with me after our wedding.

I had once told him that New York was my favorite city.

But now he had taken Isadora there instead.

Looking at the grid of photos Isadora posted where Alec was smiling brightly, I suddenly felt so dejected.

His smile was tender and radiant, showing no trace of concern for me whatsoever.
