A Question Left Unasked

The next morning, I woke up with one thought running through my head—should I just ask her out already?

Leo and Matt had a point. Emma and I had been orbiting around each other for weeks now, caught in this weird in-between stage where we were more than friends but not quite something official.

And honestly? I was getting tired of waiting.

A Moment Interrupted

At school, I found Emma at her locker, just like yesterday. This time, she noticed me before I even said a word.

"Hey," she greeted, smiling.

"Hey," I said, leaning against the locker beside her. "So, I was thinking…"

She shut her locker and turned to me. "Yeah?"

I swallowed. This was it. This was the moment.

I took a breath, trying to find the right words—

"Emma!"

We both turned to see Ryan Parker jogging up to us, looking way too eager for my liking.

Emma raised an eyebrow. "What's up?"

Ryan shot me a glance before focusing on her. "I was wondering if you're free this weekend? My band's playing at The Spot, and I thought you might want to come."

I stiffened.

Ryan Parker. School's golden boy. Lead guitarist of some way too popular band. The kind of guy every girl seemed to have a crush on at some point.

Emma looked at me briefly before turning back to him. "Uh, I don't know yet. I'll have to see."

Ryan grinned. "Cool. Let me know."

And just like that, he was gone.

I clenched my jaw, forcing a neutral expression as Emma turned back to me. "What were you saying?"

For a split second, I thought about asking her out right then and there. Just saying it, before anyone else had the chance to.

But I hesitated.

I wasn't the kind of guy to rush things. And I didn't want to ask her just because some guy showed up out of nowhere.

So instead, I shook my head with a small smirk. "Nothing. It can wait."

Emma studied me for a second, as if sensing something was off. But then she let it go, nudging me as we started walking to class.

Leo and Matt: The Advisors I Didn't Ask For

That afternoon, I filled Leo and Matt in on what happened.

Leo groaned, flopping onto the cafeteria table dramatically. "Dude, you had one job."

Matt shook his head. "Ryan Parker? That guy? Come on, man."

I frowned. "She didn't say yes to him."

Leo shot me a look. "Yeah, but she didn't say no, either."

I stayed quiet.

Matt leaned in. "Listen, you like her. She likes you. The only thing standing in the way is you not making a move."

Leo nodded. "Exactly. Do you really want Ryan to swoop in while you're busy overthinking?"

I exhaled, rubbing my temples.

They weren't wrong.

But was I ready?

A Question Still Left Unasked

That evening, as I walked home, I pulled out my phone and hovered over Emma's chat.

I could just text her now. Say something. Make it official.

But instead, I sighed, shoving my phone back into my pocket.

Not yet.

But soon.
