Elara ran forward, her sword ready. But the dark version of her moved at lightning speed, as if she already knew her every move.
Her blade hissed through the air - and Elara could barely block it with a spark of light. The impact made her arms tremble.
"You're too slow," sneered the dark Elara.
She stepped forward, letting a wave of dark magic shoot through the ground. Elara jumped to the side, but the pressure wave caught her by the shoulder and threw her back several meters.
"Ugh!" She landed hard on her back, her sword slipped away from her.
The dark Elara walked slowly towards her.
"Why are you fighting against it?" Her voice was almost soft. "You know I'm a part of you. Why are you rejecting me?"
Elara gritted her teeth. "Because you're not me."
The dark Elara laughed softly. "Oh, I'm exactly you. I'm everything you suppress. Your anger, your fear, your true potential."
With a quick movement, she rammed her sword into the ground - and suddenly Elara was wrapped in dark chains.
She gasped.
"Don't fight me," whispered her dark version and knelt to her. "Just let me show your true self."
The shadows began to wind around Elara, penetrating into her skin, into her thoughts.
And for a moment... it felt good.
She felt the power. The control.
The fear disappeared.
But then...
"Elara!"
Kael's voice broke through the darkness like a knife.
Her eyes widened.
That's not me.
With all the strength she still had, she screamed - and a wave of golden light broke out of her body.
The dark Elara opened her eyes as the light hit her.
A deafening scream echoed through the air.
And then – silence.
The choice of the heart
Elara gasped as the darkness around her disappeared. She lay on the floor, trembling, her chest rising and falling heavily.
Kael was next to her, his eyes full of worry.
"You're back..."
She nodded slowly.
Then she looked at the water basin.
It no longer reflected the dark version of her – but herself.
But she was different.
She hadn't defeated the darkness.
She had accepted them.
Not as an enemy. Not as a curse.
But as part of it.
The guard watched her from a distance and nodded.
"Now you understand."
