Chapter 36 the weight of divine judgment

Kael barely had a second to react before Seraphina raised her hand. A radiant sigil burned in the air above her, and with a single motion, a spear of pure light descended from the heavens, crashing toward him with the force of a falling star.

He barely managed to twist away, shadows erupting from his body to shield him. The impact was deafening—dust and debris exploded into the air, carving a deep crater where he had stood just moments ago.

Alden lunged forward, his golden spear a blur as he aimed for Kael's throat. But Kael wasn't about to be caught between two divine warriors. With a flick of his wrist, the shadows beneath Alden stretched upward like living chains, wrapping around his limbs.

The general struggled, his light burning through the restraints, but it gave Kael the opening he needed. He teleported through the darkness, reappearing behind Seraphina, his arm wreathed in cursed energy.

"You're strong," he muttered, "but I don't bow to gods."

Seraphina turned just in time, her eyes flashing. A pulse of holy energy erupted from her body, blasting Kael back before he could land his strike. He skidded across the battlefield, barely regaining his footing.

She sighed, her voice laced with something almost like pity. "Your power is unnatural, Kael Draven. It was never meant to exist."

Kael wiped blood from the corner of his mouth, his smirk unfaltering. "Then maybe it's time for the natural order to change."

Dark energy coiled around him, denser than ever before. The battlefield trembled beneath his feet. If the gods wanted a fight, he was more than willing to give them one.
