Chapter 38: A Way to Introduce Pokémon to Ordinary People

"Ahem—"

Old Feng quickly picked up on the meaning behind Ryo's look and coughed awkwardly. "Boss Ryo, please go on."

Ryo withdrew his odd gaze and continued, "Old Feng, do you know what my shop is for?"

Old Feng shook his head. He had been visiting for a few days now and hadn't seen a single customer.

If Ryo hadn't repeatedly emphasized that this was a shop, Old Feng would've thought it was just an ordinary residence.

"Old Feng, I have creatures here called Pokémon. They're very powerful—so powerful that they can surpass even ninjas."

Upon hearing this, Old Feng's expression changed. He looked at Ryo as if he had lost his mind and was about to leave immediately.

Is this a joke? I've been listening so seriously, and this is what you tell me?

If such creatures truly existed, ninjas wouldn't be as highly regarded as they are.

Ryo, noticing Old Feng's reaction, said, "I know it's hard to believe, but everything I'm telling you is true."

"Boss Ryo, stop joking around. You might be free, but I've got things to do."

"If you don't believe me, let me call out a Pokémon. You'll see for yourself."

Ryo knew words alone wouldn't convince him. The only way was to show proof.

"Are you serious, Boss Ryo?" Old Feng asked with a serious expression.

"Of course I am."

Ryo nodded and patted Old Feng on the shoulder. "Wait here for a moment. You'll know soon enough."

Then, he turned and headed to the backyard.

Letting Old Feng adopt a Pokémon was something Ryo had just thought of.

Up to this point, nearly all those adopting Pokémon were ninjas.

No ordinary person knew about them.

If he wanted to introduce Pokémon to the general public, the first step was to have a regular person adopt one.

Once someone took the lead, more would follow.

And that person was going to be Old Feng.

For ninjas, adopting Pokémon was a matter of safety and security.

For ordinary people, however, safety wasn't as big of a concern—especially within Konoha, where danger was rare.

At least, that was how most ordinary people in Konoha saw it.

To get them interested in adopting Pokémon, there needed to be another reason—profit.

If Old Feng believed that raising Pokémon could make money, he'd be willing to try.

And once he did, others would discover the power of Pokémon, and their popularity would gradually spread among ordinary people.

Not long after, Ryo returned to the cabin with Espeon, who had just left earlier.

"Boss Ryo, you're not telling me this cat is one of those powerful creatures, are you?"

Old Feng's gaze turned suspicious as he looked at Espeon.

"Old Feng, I know what you're thinking. Come outside with me, and I'll show you the true power of a Pokémon."

There was no point in explaining further. It was best to let Old Feng witness it firsthand.

Hearing this, Old Feng nodded and followed Ryo outside.

Once outside, Ryo stopped in front of a large tree.

Turning to the puzzled Old Feng, he said, "Old Feng, watch carefully."

He looked at Espeon and instructed, "Espeon, use Swift."

"Bui~"

Espeon nodded, its eyes growing serious as psychic energy radiated from its body.

A cluster of glowing stars materialized in the air above it.

With a soft cry, Espeon launched the stars at the tree at high speed.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

A series of explosions echoed as smoke and dust filled the air.

Old Feng's eyes widened in shock.

When the dust settled, the tree was gone—reduced to a pile of wood chips.

Even the ground where the tree had stood was riddled with craters from Espeon's attack.

Old Feng stared at the scene in disbelief. His gaze shifted to Espeon, now filled with a mix of awe and fear.

He never would've imagined that such a small, seemingly ordinary creature could wield such immense power.

"So, Old Feng, did I lie to you?"

Ryo approached with a smile and patted him on the shoulder.

Old Feng, snapping out of his shock, stammered, "Boss Ryo… is this the creature you were talking about—a Pokémon?"

Ryo nodded. "Yes, Espeon is one of them. Impressive, right?"

Old Feng nodded repeatedly. "It's incredible. Even many ninjas aren't that strong. But can ordinary people really obtain something like this?"

He wasn't stupid. If he had been, he wouldn't have become a successful businessman.

The moment he saw Espeon's power, countless possibilities raced through his mind.

The most important question was: Could ordinary people really get their hands on such a powerful creature?

Why are ninjas so revered in this world? Partly because they are undeniably powerful, but more importantly, it's because there are so few people with that kind of strength.

If the streets were filled with ninjas, would they still hold the same status they do now?

The power of Pokémon rivals that of ninjas, even surpassing many of them. If ordinary people could gain such power, the status of ninjas would undoubtedly plummet.

That's a scenario ninjas wouldn't want to see.

Ryo understood what Old Feng was worried about and nodded again. "Yes, ordinary people can definitely obtain Pokémon."

Such concerns didn't bother Ryo. If anyone had an issue with it, he was more than ready to confront them head-on.

Old Feng nodded. "Alright, Boss Ryo. So how do I obtain one of these Pokémon?"

Ryo had already made it clear, so there was no reason for him to hesitate anymore. After all, if the ninjas did take issue with it, they'd go after Ryo first, not him.

Ryo let out a sigh of relief and explained the rules for obtaining Pokémon.

He had been worried that Old Feng wouldn't have the courage to take in a Pokémon.

Once ordinary people started gaining such power, it was inevitable that ninjas would target them first.

Ryo had feared Old Feng might back down, afraid of becoming a target.

But thankfully, Old Feng didn't falter. Of course, it was likely the promise of profit that swayed him in the end.

Not that it mattered to Ryo. Whether it was for personal gain or any other reason, as long as they treated the Pokémon they received with care and respect, he wouldn't have any complaints.
