Hunting Ghosts

Elijah clenched his jaw as the car sped through the city, his mind racing. Luca Moretti. The name alone sent a sharp pulse of anger through his veins.

The man had been dead to him for years.

Now, he was back. And he had tried to kill him.

Dante sat beside him, one leg crossed over the other, looking far too relaxed for a man about to go hunting. "So," Dante mused, glancing over at Elijah. "Are we killing him, or just making him wish he were dead?"

Elijah shot him a sharp look. "He has information. I want him alive."

Dante smirked. "Alive for now."

Nathan, who was driving, said nothing. But his grip on the steering wheel tightened ever so slightly. Elijah noticed.

"Nathan." His voice was firm. "Tell me what you know."

Nathan hesitated. "Luca disappearing wasn't an accident."

Elijah's eyes narrowed. "Meaning?"

Nathan exhaled through his nose, gaze locked on the road. "I knew he wasn't dead."

Silence. A sharp, cutting silence that filled the car like a loaded gun.

Elijah's jaw tensed. "And you didn't tell me?"

Nathan's grip on the wheel tightened. "I wasn't sure. And if I was wrong—"

Elijah didn't let him finish. "That wasn't your decision to make."

Nathan didn't flinch. "I made a call. And I stand by it."

Dante let out a low whistle. "Well, this just got interesting."

Elijah ignored him. "Where is he?"

Nathan finally met his gaze in the rearview mirror. "If Luca resurfaced, he'll be in the one place he always felt untouchable."

Dante chuckled darkly. "Ah. The Black Lotus."

Elijah's stomach twisted. The Black Lotus was an underground casino and nightclub—neutral territory for criminals, informants, and those looking to disappear.

If Luca was there, finding him wouldn't be easy.

Getting him out alive? Even harder.

Dante leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, eyes gleaming with anticipation. "Looks like we're going to a party, tesoro."

Elijah exhaled slowly, his rage simmering beneath the surface.

Luca was a dead man walking.

He just didn't know it yet.
