The Setup

Present Day – Walking into the Fire

The warehouse was cold and dimly lit, the air thick with dust and the scent of old metal. Elijah, Dante, Luca, and Nathan stood in a loose circle, tension crackling between them.

Elijah folded his arms. "Lorenzo's next shipment moves tonight. That's our chance."

Dante nodded. "We cut him off before he even realizes what's happening."

Luca leaned against a crate, smirking. "Ambitious. But Lorenzo isn't stupid. If he even suspects a setup, he'll send someone else in his place."

Nathan shot him a sharp look. "Which is why we need a backup plan."

Luca chuckled. "Oh, Cross, always so careful."

Nathan ignored him. "We need to isolate Lorenzo, force him to come out himself."

Elijah exchanged a look with Dante. "Then we make it personal."

Dante's jaw tightened. "You mean using Luca as bait."

Luca grinned. "I do love being the center of attention."

Nathan's eyes darkened. "It's too risky."

Elijah was firm. "It's the only way."

Silence stretched between them before Luca let out a dramatic sigh. "Fine. But if I die, I'm haunting all of you."

Nathan's expression hardened. "Not funny."

Dante checked his watch. "We don't have time to argue. We move now."

As they filed out of the warehouse, none of them noticed the shadow lurking in the far corner.

Someone was already one step ahead.

And the betrayal had already begun.

Years Ago – A Line Crossed

Nathan pressed Luca against the wall, his breath ragged. "You don't know when to stop, do you?"

Luca's smirk didn't waver. "Isn't that why you like me?"

Nathan's hands tightened on his jacket. "This isn't a game, Luca."

Luca's smirk finally faded. "It never was."

For the first time, there was something raw in his eyes—something real.

And that was the problem.

Nathan couldn't afford to believe him.

So instead, he let go.

And walked away.

Luca watched him leave, a flicker of something unreadable in his gaze.

Because he knew—

This wasn't over.

It never would be.
