Lanmyth looked at the village—small hills, large rock formations jutting out from a hill's peak.
Thatch and wooden huts. Lanterns everywhere, fireflies flying around—it felt like a different world. Every breath was visible, tinged with an orange hue. Every gasp carried a soothing crispness. The world seemed flawless; every minor detail had its own beauty. As if an illusion of the senses had shattered.
As we moved, our eyes left behind a flickering, fading trail, giving an ethereal stroke to the canvas of life. I activated Nano to scan the area, and the results were amazing.
[Lina: "Boss, this is what we call heaven. It has a higher oxygen level than anywhere else. The air is as clean as marble. The trees are so vibrant, they seem alive."]
We walked in. The Natteflusks were visible. Some were walking in a trail, some were working on their farms, and others were occupied with different tasks.
We saw a walnut in a corner, as big as the hat-like walnuts of these Natteflusks, but this one was whole.
"Hey, what is that walnut?" Zarita asked.
"They are reproducing!" Guffu giggled like an old man.
"Hhhaa?!?" Scyures and Zarita were shocked at his reply. Myale hid Hein's eyes, and Lan was digging his eyes over that walnut.
"Since our folks are sacrificed every night, we encourage reproduction to save our race." Guffu giggled again.
"So why in the open? Like that?" Scyures asked.
"Well, they are near the entrance, and our people don't go there. So in a sense, it is a private place."
We gave a deadpan look at Guffu and followed him as he walked further.
The Natteflusk had a very simple form: a wooden, ball-like head with two bead-like eyes, a curved cylindrical nose, and small oval mouths. Their bodies were covered in straw and thatch fabric, with a straw hat hanging from their backs. Lanterns hung from trees. As they went in further, they saw houses. Circular, spherical homes.
Made from wood, thatch, and straw. Calling them huts would not do justice to their magnificent beauty.
Every single building felt like a home, not just a house.
As we went in, slowly, a big circular office came into view. The door's height was half that of a human's. There were Nut folks everywhere, carrying papers.
There were some guards standing on either side of the door, holding small stone spears. Guffu signaled us to halt our steps and stepped inside. We saw him talking at the counter with someone, and then he signaled us to enter.
We walked in together. The guards stopped us and took our weapons. Zarita, unusually, didn't make a fuss this time. We were shown the notes.
Scyures picked up a paper and read it out loud: "Khandraliph! What is this place?" The paper had a sketch of some houses and castles.
"Look here!" Scyures was completely ignored as Guffu showed us the main documents.
THE AFFAIRS OF THE LAND OF PAPER
This place is also known as the Land of Paper due to its heavy production of wood cane—a tree like bamboo or sugarcane that is used to make paper.
He turned the pages and showed us the main deal without any filler timepass.
"This is... weird!" Scyures said excitedly.
"What is this?" Zarita asked, confused.
"..." Myale just stared, observing it.
"It's something we've never seen before—like... not even once," I proclaimed, having read many history books of this world.
The page was yellowish. Black ink was used in such a manner that it revealed an eldritch horror—a tall human-like figure, but thin. Blurred edges, as if it were a pure form of energy.
"How are we supposed to kill it?" Zarita cracked her knuckles.
"This is like the final boss of a horror-action RPG!" Scyures thought loudly, crossing his arms.
"Hooo..." Hein was fascinated by the imagery.
"Should... should we run away?" Gunbo whispered to Lanmyth, which was declined on the spot.
"We'll have to wait for it until it comes... Until then, I guess you all are free to roam here!" Lanmyth gave the order. Myale walked away first, with Hein on her back. Scyures and Zarita walked away next.
I walked out of the big hub, looked at some scenery, and thought about the other documents Guffu showed me.
THE STAINED RULER
A being comparable to gods exists somewhere in this world. That being isn't commonly seen but is said to rule a nation and is the strongest to exist.
THE ETERNAL SWORD
Another being—the perfect counterpart of the Stained Ruler. Somehow, it is also very strong.
Why is everyone in this world so strong? I thought.
Walking around, some fireflies accompanied me. A strangely shaded tree caught my attention. I heard some panting too. I walked near it, rested my hand on the tree, and looked beyond it.
