As soon as Amara finished her meal, she bid farewell to Tera, who offered to escort her back to the hostel. Their conversation flowed effortlessly as they walked, covering all sorts of topics like two old friends reconnecting. It felt as if they had known each other for years. Before she knew it, they had reached the hostel.
Tera turned on his heels, ready to leave. "It was really nice spending time with you today, Amara. Hoping to see you again—more often," he said, a sly grin tugging at the corners of his lips.
Amara, oblivious to the hidden meaning in his smile, rolled her eyes playfully. "The pleasure is all mine. But as for another encounter, I'm sorry to disappoint you, but that won't be happening," she said with a teasing lilt before slipping into the hostel.
When she entered her room, she found the door already open. Her roommate, Andre, was lounging on the bed, watching a movie. The moment she noticed Amara's beaming smile, she smirked knowingly.
"I see someone had a good time," Andre remarked, arching an eyebrow.
Amara scoffed. "And what's that supposed to mean? It's perfectly normal to be in a good mood, especially since today was my first day of lectures on this campus. I have no idea what you're talking about."
Without warning, Andre stood up and walked over, placing the back of her hand against Amara's forehead.
Amara blinked, startled. "What are you doing?"
Andre sighed dramatically. "Just checking for a fever. Because if you were sick, I'd have to rush you straight to the hospital."
Amara stared at her for a moment before realization dawned. She gasped and playfully punched Andre's shoulder. "You're unbelievable!"
Andre simply shrugged. "Well, can you blame me? Anyone in my shoes would be suspicious after seeing how ridiculously excited you were. I take it you made some new friends?"
"Not really," Amara replied, settling onto her bed. "It was just this random good Samaritan who offered me a seat in the cafeteria, and somehow, we started talking. We just clicked."
She proceeded to narrate the entire story from start to finish, leaving out no details.
Andre listened intently before smirking. "From the way you're describing him, he sounds like a nice guy. But the most interesting part? You seem to have fallen for him already. Love at first sight."
Amara's eyes widened in disbelief. "Oh, come on! How can you even say that? I don't even like him—yet, let alone fallen for him. Sure, he's cute and all, but he's not my type. Besides, I just got here! I can't start liking random people like that. I have some self-respect, you know!"
Andre rolled her eyes. "Oh, please. Look who's acting all innocent. Mark my words—you'll realize soon enough that I was only stating the obvious. By the way, what's his name?"
Silence filled the room.
Andre's smirk deepened. "Have you suddenly gone deaf? Or did someone cut out your tongue?" She waved her fingers in front of Amara's face, making her blink rapidly as if snapping out of a trance.
"Damn!" Amara groaned, covering her face with her hands. "How could I forget such an important detail? I don't even know his name! I'm such a fool."
Andre burst into laughter. "Oh, you're not just a fool. You're the biggest one in existence!" she teased, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Amara groaned again, already dreading the moment she would see Tera again.
