Breaking Limits

Alex woke up feeling like he had been hit by a truck.

His muscles burned from the previous day's training, and every movement sent a sharp ache through his body.

This is insane…

He barely had time to sit up before Evelyn tossed a water bottle at his chest.

"Up and at 'em, time boy," she said, grinning. "Today's the real test."

Alex groaned. "Yesterday wasn't the test?"

Evelyn smirked. "That was warm-up."

The Warehouse – Pushing the Limits

Evelyn led Alex back to the training area. This time, the setup was different. The moving targets were faster. The laser drones were positioned all around the room. And in the center—was a metal combat dummy with reinforced armor.

"Alright," Evelyn said. "Take off the limiter."

Alex hesitated. "What if I lose control?"

"Then I'll knock you out before you break something," she said casually.

"…Comforting."

He took a deep breath and removed the wristband.

The effect was instant.

Time slowed.

The world around him became sharper. He could see the dust particles in the air, the tiny flickers of light reflecting off the drones. He could hear Evelyn's heartbeat, steady and calm.

And then—everything snapped back to normal speed.

Evelyn raised an eyebrow. "Well?"

Alex flexed his fingers. "I feel…lighter."

"Good. Now fight."

She pressed a button, and the drones fired.

Alex's instincts took over.

He twisted before the lasers even fired, dodging each one by inches. He weaved through the assault, his body moving faster than his brain could process.

Then the combat dummy lunged at him.

Alex barely had time to react—so he didn't.

Instead, he let his instincts take control. He stopped time for a fraction of a second—just enough to sidestep—then restarted it mid-movement.

The dummy swung—and hit nothing but air.

Alex exhaled sharply. I did it.

Evelyn whistled. "Not bad. Now hit it back."

Alex clenched his fist. He focused—not just on stopping time, but on using it.

He took a step forward—accelerating instead of freezing.

The world blurred.

He appeared in front of the dummy in an instant—his fist connecting before he even processed the movement.

BOOM!

The reinforced dummy was sent flying across the warehouse.

Alex blinked. "Did I just—"

Evelyn stared at him. "Yeah. You did."

The dummy had left a dent in the metal wall.

Alex looked down at his hands. I didn't just stop time. I sped myself up.

Evelyn grinned. "Looks like you're finally getting it."

Alex wasn't sure whether to feel excited—or terrified.

Because if he could do this… then what else was he capable of?
