Chapter 18: Long Zhi’s secrets

"Today, I am so happy."

"Is it because of the transfiguration soon to come? Isn't it tonight?" She nodded at his question. Her joy was so pure that he wanted nothing but to keep it that way. He swore to protect her with all his love and might.

He remembered back in their school times. The education system of the kingdom had changed completely and the schools were divided into two categories; for the normal and the witches. Souhee had no power so that attracted the bullying for her.

"AH!" Souhee whimpered as she landed on the ground from a hard push. Whirl wind girl had sent her wind to push her down. Rage got hold of Long Zhi and he stepped in front of Souhee. He glared at all of them. At first, they all first took it for granted but his next words shocked them.

"If any of you ever, I mean it- ever try to hurt her again, I will make them pay with all my power, if I need to." His eyes flared with a fiery sight that scared everyone. Long Zhi had great power in his eyes and they all knew what his eyes could do. Though they wanted to defy, they could not. Since then, the verbal whispers are all that remained of their dislike of Souhee and neglection.

He loved her since childhood and was ready to do anything just to make her happy and peaceful. Souhee paused in all her chirping as she looked in his eyes. A sudden gasp escaped her lips as she heard something. Her mind immediately denied it. How could she have never known if what she is hearing is right? Is he really in love with me for all that time?

As if he had heard her thoughts, he also paused and began contemplating what was happening. Could she have regained her powers, but no it couldn't be. She backed away and ran to her bedroom. It was true but she was not yet transfigured so how did she claim the power she just used to know his feelings. Her mind raced back and forth but nothing. Tonight, she was to be transfigured but where will she get the answers of what she felt.

Long Zhi exhaled heavily and remembered a certain event from his childhood.

Little Long Zhi was being led to a well decorated room that seemed to belong to a royalty. A certain petite lady dressed in a black cloak held his hand and brought him to the entrance. She kneeled to his level and told him in a quite tone.

"You must protect her, okay? Make sue she is fine. A very important person who will return, will need her help so to protect her is to protect the kingdom, do you understand me?" the little boy with a slender sharp nose that accentuated his beauty, nodded affirmatively. Giving him a satisfied smile, she stood up calmly and gently walked to a cradle that was positioned in the middle of the room.

She smiled at the chuckling baby in the cradle and caressed her cheeks as she bent slightly. Her eyes shimmered in the dark mesmerizing the cloaked lady even more. The lady closed her eyes and let a fiery ball with blue and purple sparks interlaced in the glorious yellow and red flames. Chanting silently on the ball, she finally released it into the sleeping baby making the child to cry. The little boy got a little scared and tried to enter but great power threw him down before he could enter.

The cloaked lady looked at him apologetically and said more chants on the baby. She walked out as the palace maids walked to the room and led the boy to a place.

"I will find you, so go and out of this place for now." He nodded and walked away but he disobeyed and ran up without her knowing. Since then, he lived I the library with the librarian who later died when he made fifteen years. He raised hi and never asked about his parents instead lied to the palace that he was his son. Until date, Long Zhi never got to know why he saved him.

"Mom, where are you? What did she do to you?" Long Zhi asked himself as his mind pondered about that night.
