Chapter 15

Camilla

I rested comfortably in my office with my eyes shut close and my back against the plush couch. A smirk relaxed on my face as I felt the comfort of the silence.

Suddenly, the door to my room opened wide, making a loud thud noise. I snapped my eyes open and rolled it at the culprit. Desmond stepped into my office with a small smile plastered on his face. "Hello doc, I can see you are relaxing." He said. I rolled my eyes at him. I was relaxing right before he interrupted my relaxation.

"I was and now I can not. What do you need Desmond?" I fired at him. He raised his hands at me in mock surrender, I could not help but choke out a small laughter. Desmond was my comic relief at work, he was good at reducing the tension I felt around Lawrence.

"Your personal patient seeks for your attention this minute." Desmond said, his tone was slightly laced with sarcasm. I knew who he was talking about. It was Lawrence who needed my attention.

"I am busy." I snapped at him. Desmond choked out a small laughter. He shook his head at me and pushed further. "You are a doctor Camilla. I do not think you are allowed to be too busy for your patient, especially a personal patient." Desmond empahsized deeply on his words.

Desmond was my personal assistant. I would not be surprised if he suspected that something was going on between I ane Lawrence. Honestly, I was not bothered about Desmond's suspicions. I trusted Desmond and i knew he did not care about things like that, he was a focused person.

"As you can see I am busy Desmond. Do me a favour and attend to him instead." I winked at Desmond and smiled cheekily at him.

"That is not going to work on me Camilla, plus Dr Kimber needs me at his office in less than five minutes. I only came here to relay Mr Lawrence's request to see you, I mean for you to give him the necessary treatments." Desmond said with a slight shrug. I rolled my eyes at him.

"You are so unhelpful." I said jokingly. Desmond flashed me his pair of white teeth and scurried out of my office. I sighed heavily and once Desmond had disappeared, all the tension returned. I was once again afraid. I thought I and Lawrence were finally on the same page.

I mean for a while now, he had not said a single word to me. He had not requested for my presence and i actually thought things had started to fall back in place when Desmond suddenly broke the news to me.

I rose to my feet and paused to run a hand through my hair in frustration. I gritted my teeth as I made my way out of my office with a racing heartbeat.

I came to a stop in front of Lawrence's room. I pushed the door open and i met him watching a video on his phone. Once he noticed my presence, he tossed his phone into his pocket and stared at me.

"Good afternoon doctor." He said with a warm smile. Something felt off about him, was it the fact that he addressed me as doctor and not by my name or the fact that he was being so nonchalant? Anyways, all was to my favour, who was I to complain.

"Good afternoon Lawrence, how are you feeling?" I decided to play along. Lawrence nodded his head at me and continued "Well, I feel okay but I still think it is necessary for me to come for check ups, at least just to make sure I am perfectly okay to resume pack business." He remained nonchalant, I felt uncomfortable by it.

He was doing so well by pretending like nothing had happened between us. It felt awkward, for some weird reason. I did not like it that way even when I knew that deep down inside of me, I was supposed to be the happiest.

"Doctor?" Lawrence snapped his fingers in my face. I jolted out of my thoughts and snapped back to reality. I forced a small smile on my face and said. "Sorry, I got distracted for a slight moment." I said.

"Are you okay? If you are uncomfortable or something. Shall I request for another doctor instead?" Lawrence asked. I scoffed, now he was just trying to make his nonchalance so obvious. Was he trying to rub it in my face?

"If you could have requested for another doctor then why did you not just do so?" I snapped at him. Lawrence looked taken aback by my sudden outburst, I had to apologize. "Sorry, like I said earlier I am slightly distracted." I said with a small sigh.

Lawrence nodded his head in agreement. He took off his shirt andallowed me examine him properly. As I touched Lawrence's bare skin, I felt this spark of electricity course through my veins. I hastily shuddered at the thought of it all and pulled backward.

"You are okay, everything seems okay with you. Just keep using your drugs and in no time, you will be able to fully attend to pack business." I ranted. "Alright then, goodbye." I said. I turned around and attempted to walk away but Lawrence yelled my name causing me to remain frozen on the spot.

Why was he doing this? I thought we were past this stage already.

"I requested for you because I needed to tell you something really urgent." Lawrence said. Urgent? I furrowed my brows in confusion and turned to raise a brow at him. What was so urgent and how was that anyone of my business? We had nothing in common anymore so somehow, why did I feel like I was involved in it?

"I am busy. If there is something you would like to say then I suggest that you sa---"

"I am getting married."
