The Vault

The journey to the Vault was treacherous. The forests of Terra became thicker the further they went, with twisted trees and unpredictable terrain. Kael led the way, his instincts guiding him through the wilderness, while Lyra and Elira followed closely behind.

They traveled in silence for most of the day, the only sound being the crunch of wet leaves beneath their boots. The storm had passed, but the air was still heavy with humidity, and the oppressive weight of the hunt never left Kael's mind. Every time he heard a twig snap or a branch groan, his heart skipped a beat. The hunters were out there.

By dusk, they had reached the edge of a canyon, where the remnants of the Xypherian city lay buried beneath the earth. What had once been a sprawling metropolis was now little more than broken stone and overgrown vines.

"This is it," Elira said, standing on the edge of the canyon and looking down into the ruins. "The Vault is somewhere down there."

Kael looked at the dark abyss below them. He could see the faint outlines of ancient structures, but nothing that clearly marked where the Vault was hidden. "How do we get in?"

Elira pulled out a small device from her pack, activating it. A holographic map flickered to life in front of them, showing a series of tunnels hidden beneath the ruins. "The entrance should be just below us, near the base of the old citadel. Follow me."

They descended carefully, using ropes and climbing gear to make their way down into the ruins. The stone walls were slick with moisture, and the air smelled old—like something ancient and forgotten.

At the bottom, they reached the entrance of the Vault: a massive stone door, covered in intricate carvings. The surface was cracked, weathered by centuries of neglect, but still strong.

"This is it," Lyra whispered, her voice filled with awe.

Kael stepped forward, his heart pounding in his chest. "Let's open it."

Elira approached the door, her fingers tracing the symbols. "These carvings... they're instructions. They tell us how to unlock the door."

She muttered something under her breath as she placed her hand on a specific symbol. The ground beneath them rumbled, and slowly, the massive stone door began to creak open. A cold gust of wind rushed out, carrying the scent of ancient dust.

Inside, the Vault was dark and silent, but there was a faint glow coming from deep within.

Kael stepped into the chamber, his breath caught in his throat. The walls were lined with strange, glowing crystals, and at the center of the room stood a pedestal. On it lay an even larger version of the artifact Kael had found—the Heart of Xypheris, pulsing with energy.

"This is it," Elira breathed. "The core of their power."

But before they could move any closer, the ground shook again. This time, it wasn't just the vibrations of the earth—it was the sound of engines, the roar of combat vehicles coming from above.

"We're not alone," Kael said, his voice tight. "They found us."
