"Himeko, we're back!"
March 7th rushed over with Stelle, while Dan Heng returned from another direction.
Lin Shuang saw Dan Heng coming back and couldn't imagine how someone as reserved as him could possibly comfort others.
"Ah, Lin Shuang—I just saw the Defense Department taking your pet outside. They gave quite a few people a scare."
After greeting Himeko, March 7th turned her attention to Lin Shuang. She and Stelle had just been trying to calm the staff when they saw the defense personnel leading away that big, angry creature.
Some of the braver clerks handled it fine, but the timid ones needed a lot of reassurance.
March 7th's tone carried a hint of complaint, but it wasn't exactly a complaint. If anything, it sounded more like she was acting spoiled.
No wonder people liked March 7th. Her perfect social skills made it easy for her to win others over.
Lin Shuang nodded and explained, "It stands out too much staying in the main control cabin all the time, so I let it go outside to contribute in its own way."
"Oh—I see."
March 7th suddenly understood, while Asta beside her covered her mouth, laughing quietly. She still remembered Lin Shuang's earlier reasoning, which wasn't quite so serious.
Just then—
Suddenly, alarms blared across the station.
Warnings echoed from every compartment.
Before long, the source of the alert reached Asta, and everyone present saw it clearly.
A massive monster clung to the space station's protective shield, tearing at it frantically, trying to destroy the newly restarted defense system.
Doomsday Beast!
The Antimatter Legion was infamous for deploying these civilization-destroying weapons, yet now, such a beast had set its sights on a mere space station.
Asta instantly realized the gravity of the situation.
Civilians couldn't be caught up in this.
Without hesitation, she turned to Himeko. "You all take the train ahead. Bring Lin Shuang with you. I'll stay."
Himeko cast a quick glance at Stelle before nodding and preparing to leave with the others.
"But..."
March 7th wanted to protest, but Himeko had already turned, grabbed Stelle's wrist, and led her away.
Lin Shuang, knowing the truth, reassured Asta, "Don't worry. It'll be fine."
With that, she grabbed March 7th's arm and pulled her toward the Astral Express's docking platform.
…
"Hey... Lin Shuang, stop pulling me! We can't just run away like this, right?"
March 7th wanted to stay and help, but their leader, Himeko, and the powerful Lin Shuang had already chosen to leave. Each had taken one person with them, leaving no room for argument.
Dan Heng, who caught up with them, was as quiet as ever. They couldn't rely on him for answers.
But March 7th knew one thing for certain—Himeko wasn't the type to abandon others for self-preservation.
So, her weak protest was more of an excuse to start a conversation and figure out the reasoning behind this.
Stelle, being led by Himeko, also glanced over. But Lin Shuang's gaze fell on her instead.
"Leaving is how we save the space station."
"Huh? What do you mean?"
March 7th looked at Lin Shuang in confusion, while Himeko seemed thoughtful.
Dan Heng furrowed his brows and glanced at Stelle.
Lin Shuang continued, "The Doomsday Beast is after the Stellaron. It will follow wherever the Stellaron is. We are the ones who can't escape. If we stay, we risk turning the main control cabin into the battlefield."
"Wait, us? The Stellaron? You're not saying we have the Stellaron, right? We didn't steal anything!"
March 7th flailed her hands in protest, trying to rid herself of suspicion.
Dan Heng seemed to have figured something out but remained silent.
Stelle, still lost in thought, hadn't fully grasped the situation. Given her recent memory loss, it wasn't surprising.
Himeko, on the other hand, pieced together more of the puzzle from Lin Shuang's words. It piqued her curiosity about Lin Shuang's background and connections.
But for now, she had to focus on leading the train crew.
"Let's go with Lin Shuang's plan for now. We'll sort out the details once this is over. Right now, we need to get as far from the main control cabin as possible."
"Oh... Well, I don't get it, but since you say so, Himeko, I'll trust you."
March 7th was an optimist. If she couldn't figure something out, she preferred to stop thinking about it. After all, Himeko and Dan Heng were smart—she'd just follow along and avoid trouble.
"So, where do we go now? Just a reminder, the Doomsday Beast is an anti-planetary weapon. Breaking through a mere shield is nothing to it."
Dan Heng spoke up at the right moment, making his meaning clear.
If the Doomsday Beast was after them, they had to be prepared for close combat.
March 7th and Dan Heng alone couldn't handle it. They needed a location where Himeko could summon the railgun.
Or they had to find Welt.
Himeko, knowing the station's layout better than Lin Shuang, quickly selected their destination on the elevator controls.
"We'll head to the support section where the maintenance staff work. From there, we'll reach the nearest platform and meet up with Welt."
"Uncle Yang? He's here too? Didn't he stay on the train?"
March 7th poked her head forward curiously. Dan Heng answered, "The train's recorder monitors our actions in real time. With all this commotion, there's no way Welt wouldn't have noticed."
"Yeah, I'd bet he's already on his way."
Himeko watched the elevator descend as she joined the conversation.
"For now, we can handle the Doomsday Beast. But if an Emanator of Destruction arrives… that's a different story."
Just as she finished speaking, the elevator chimed.
The doors slid open. Although everyone's attention was still on Himeko, they instinctively stepped out first.
Himeko glanced at Stelle, who still seemed lost, and smiled.
"Anyway, let's move first. I'll explain later."
"Okay."
Stelle nodded. She hadn't fully grasped the situation, but from what little she'd seen, the Astral Express crew seemed trustworthy.
And given how the space station treated them, following these people didn't seem like a bad choice.
Lin Shuang smiled and looked forward.
"Stay sharp. I'll do my best to keep that Doomsday Beast under control."
