Rebellion Against Heaven - Part 36

Chapter 36: The Banishment of a Loser

Laughter and camaraderie reigned in the great throne room.

The common heralds surrounded a huge table, on which cards, dice, and even a spectral version of chess were played. Every move glowed with an ethereal glow, the pieces floating in the air and moving on their own when commanded.

"Ha! Checkmate! cried one of the heralds, waving his black queen with a triumphant air.

"Damn you!" You deceived me! grunted another, slapping the table furiously, as the cards floated around as if mocking him.

At the center of the scene, Death, with the appearance of a doting mother, smiled sweetly as she shuffled a deck of cards that seemed to reflect infinite souls trapped in each figure.

"Come on, guys, don't be such bad losers. His tone was soft, but his gaze hid a mischievous spark. After all, the important thing is to have fun.

The common heralds nodded with laughter and continued playing, but the joy was interrupted by a sigh of boredom.

Death turned his head and watched Daichi, who was still there, frozen in shock, processing what had happened.

"Tch... How boring. she murmured disdainfully, setting her cards down on the table. Daichi, honestly... I thought you'd do something more entertaining than stand around like a fool.

The common heralds giggled, some muttering to each other, pointing at him with derision.

"Look at his face, he doesn't seem to understand it yet.

"It's so pathetic...

"Did you really think Death would reward you for losing?"

Daichi blinked several times, and then fell to his knees, his fists clenched, trembling.

"My lady... what's going on?" Why is he doing this to me?

Death rested his cheek on his hand, looking at him with a mocking smile.

"Do you what?"

"You're banishing me!" Daichi shouted, his eyes full of anger. After all I've done for you!

Death chuckled, as if listening to a spoiled child's tantrum, and crossed his legs on his throne.

"Oh, yes, I forgot." He snapped his fingers disinterestedly. Daichi, from today you are banished.

Laughter resounded in the room.

Some heralds mocked openly, imitating their complaints in exaggerated voices, while others waved goodbye, waving their hands in feigned sadness.

"Poor little Daichi!

"Oh no, the 'Big Loser' is crying!"

"Who wants to bet how long he'll last out of here?" I say not a week.

Daichi felt his world crumble.

"My lady, this is unfair!"

Death cocked his head, with an expression of pure indifference.

"No, it would be unfair to let a loser continue standing as if nothing had happened.

The heralds cheered with mockery and applause.

"Tell him, my lady!"

"Send him to the trash with the other failures!"

"Besides," Death continued with a more malicious smile. All the stolen things and the money you got with cheats... 70% will be given to Aiko and Ryuusei. After all, they beat you in a battle to the death.

Daichi's expression went from despair to absolute fury.

"What?!" You can't do that! It's mine!

The entire throne seemed to go dark.

Death's eyes shone with an icy glow, the temperature of the room plummeted.

"Mine?" His voice lowered several tones, becoming deep, threatening. Do you think that something in this world belongs to you?

Daichi swallowed, but his fury still burned in his chest.

"They... they don't deserve it! They're just some damn bastard heralds!

The entire room fell silent.

The common heralds looked at him with expressions that ranged from surprise to morbid delight. They knew that Daichi had just made a fatal mistake.

Death slowly rose from his throne. His smile was still present, but his gaze had become empty, an abyss of pure destruction.

"Daichi." He whispered with terrifying sweetness. Do you know what bothers me the most?

He did not answer.

Death bowed his head with an almost playful expression.

"The bad losers."

He snapped his fingers.

A black chasm opened up beneath Daichi's feet.

The cry of terror he let out was drowned out by the cruel laughter of the heralds. As he fell into the infinite darkness, Death bowed and whispered with deadly coldness:

"Have fun in your new life, you failure.

And with one last laugh, Daichi was swallowed up by nothing.

The room was silent for a few seconds.

Then, Death patted his hands.

"Well, guys, are we still playing?"

The heralds burst into cheers and resumed the game.

For La Muerte, that was just another day of entertainment.
