Carter sat on the chair - no, more like he was squatting on top of the chair while bitting his nails, his eyes that had dark bags underneath refused to close, they were opened wide as if refusing to even blink for a millisecond.
On his fervent eyes the reflection of his computer shone. The flickering lights flashed, as the lights shone much brighter, along with it, Carter's eyes.
However, much to his dismay, as the light grew brighter, it abruptly turned grey and along with it, his smile that had began to take shape shattered just as fast.
His eyebrows twitched as a visible vein appeared on his forehead. He quickly stood up from his chair and grabbed the edges of the monitor with gnashing teeth.
"What the fck you mean try again? I just lost my fcking three hundred k." In his fit of rage, he started shaking the monitor.
Fck! Fck! Fck!
Carter's mind was on the verge of losing his sanity, the inheritance his family left him were all but gone, all wasted on his addiction in online gambling.
Carter was in his early twenties, he was a good son, a good man and anything you would expect him to be. However, after his parents death, he became depressed, and that was when one of his friends, arguably a bad influence, introduced him to online gambling.
As a result, for half a year, he had been wasting his life on gambling, wasting the inheritance his family left him.
It would have been a lie for Carter to say that he was fine with what he was doing, cause he was not, not even a lil bit.
He wanted to stop, he really did. But it wasn't that easy, gambling was really hard to stop.
Not to mention, he had also been able to win some but in actually, those wins of his was nothing compared to his loses.
However, Carter allowed those small wins of his to overshadow the losses he gained, resulting in him not being able to stop at all.
But right now, he finally had enough, gnashing his teeth and in a fit of rage from the result of the gambling game, he threw his fist at the monitor screen, not holding back.
Bang!!
He breathed out and took a step back, he looked at the monitor with cracks and a constant flickering light.
It had broke!
After he calmed down, he was finally able to smile.
It was a smile of relief.
Finally, he was done with gambling. He was done because all of his fortune was all gone.
He just calmed down but after rembering how he lost all his money because of gambling, he screamed in his mind.
Fckkk!!
How was he gonna go on with life now that he was left with nothing.
Well, first on his mind was, taking a good night sleep.
Aside from his tired body, his mind was exhausted as well.
He walked towards his sofa in the small living room of his apartment, with each step brushing off the dozen used cup noodles and wrappers of instant foods on the floor.
He was a shut in, living off nothing but instant foods.
Squeekk!!
Carter's ears perked up as he heard the sound of a rat.
All he did was click his tongue, his apartment was comparable to a trash bin right now, filled with all kinds of trash, including him.
He really couldn't complain cause it was all his doing anyway. He wouldn't be surprised if there were more than a rat living in his apartment now.
He was annoyed but really didn't have any strength in him right now to clean his apartment. He sat on the sofa and took a deep breath.
Just as he was about to close his eyes though, everything around him suddenly shifted for a second, it felt like the world had trembled and then stopped abruptly.
Whatever happened caused his heart to almost burst as blood dripped from his nose.
"Wh-what happened?" His heartbeat fastened and along with it, his breathing.
He was shook internally, he touched his nose that was dripping with blood.
Am I dying?
He thought.
He mean, he really didn't eat anything healthy for the past half year, all he ate was instant food, was it all catching up to him and was it finally his life that was gonna be instant?
It wasn't really impossible for him to die after shutting himself in the apartment, with no proper rest, proper food, proper exercise.
Was he dying?
Just then, he heard another squekk!
He turned around to the sound, there he saw a big rat, much bigger than they should usually be.
And right now, it was convulsing, rolling on the floor like it was in pain. It was making lots of annoying sound as well.
As if it wasn't weird enought, as Carter looked at it, it seemed to grow bigger?
What the fuck!
No, for real it was getting bigger.
It was visible to the eye, the rat was getting bigger!
Carter stood up from the sofa and started backing up, the rat had now become the size of a cat.
Out of nowhere, it suddenly stopped moving. Carter was apprehensive. He gulped.
Was the eat dead?
It was lying on the floor unmoving, he suspected, after all the seizures it had, maybe it died?
The answer to his question was quickly answered.
The rat suddenly moved and charged towards him, it movements was eratic but it was fast, super fast.
Another thing that Carter noticed was that it's eyes was glowing red, it was scary, fcking scary.
Shit! Shit!
Carter was panicking, he turned around and ran but there was nothing he could run to anymore as his apartment was small, he had hit a wall.
Carter turned around fast, it was just a rat, a rat.
Why would he get scared of a rat.
But all that disappeared as the rat jumped at him, thankfully, though scared, Carter was able to think somewhat sharply as he took out the painting stuck on the wall just right beside him and smashed it into the pesky gremlin.
The picture frame shattered as the rat was thrown back. Pieces of glas fell and some stuck to the rat.
Carter was finally able to breath.
Hehehe...
"Fuck you, you mutant little fck!" He raised his middle finger at the rat, a wicked smile on his face, though cold sweat ran down his chin.
He soon regretted the gesture as the rat started convulsing once again.
Wh-
It's still alive?
Carter couldn't believe it, the rat had pieces of glass stuck to it's body, some were very deep as well, it should have died already.
Maybe it was still alive?
Carter gulped as he took a step forward, he approached the convulsing rat, if there was even a little bit chance it was still alive, he thought it would be better for him to kill it now.
He just wished it wouldn't suddenly pounce on him out of nowhere.
With a determined face, he raised the picture frame and smashed it right into the rat.
He did it a couple times to make sure it was dead.
When he raised the picture frame, the rat was unrecognizable, blood oozed from its corpse.
It was dead!
