Chapter 10: Recovery

Carter felt himself run faster than he usually can, but he couldn't careless, he just wanted to run and get away from that beast.

Roooaarrrr!

The roar behind him was very close, dangerously close.

It sent shivers down his spine. Carter quickly threw away his bag away towards the monster hoping that it would somehow slow it down even just a little bit.

However, the bag he threw got shredded and along with it, his food. It met it's demise at the sharp deadly claws of the beast that was chasing it's prey.

Carter felt like crying, there goes all his food, gone just like that. But what was food if there was a possibility that he would die right this moment.

Throwing the bag caused Carter to feel lighter and his speed faster. There was a corner right up ahead, he planned to lose the monster there.

Right!

Carter turned right as the monster with it's speed slid a bit far off. Carter ran, sooner or later he would face a dead end, so he stopped towards an apartment door.

Please be open!

Carter gnashed his teeth.

Rooooarr!

Click!

Carter immediately went inside and closed the door.

Booomm!!

The beast pushed on the wall, scratched it with it's sharp claws.

Carter knew it wouldn't hold for long.

Looking around the apartment, it didn't have anything useful at all. He didn't come inside to the apartment door just to get trapped though. He had a plan of course.

He ran towards the edge of the room where there was a massive sliding window and readied himself.

It's roar caused Carter's heart to tremble.

It's red vicious eyes made contact with his, it's bloodied maws was enough for Carter to have nightmares for weeks.

He gulped his throat being beyond dry.

He was taking a massive gamble right at this moment.

He was in an enclosed space, if his plan didn't work then his death was pretty much guaranteed.

However there was no other choice. It was the only way for him to lose the beast of his tracks.

He had to risk it, he had to gamble.

If he learned something in gambling for half a year, then it was that if he didn't risk something he also wouldn't gain something.

In this context, if he didn't risk his life then he wouldn't have any chances of surviving.

Carter had already steeled his heart for this moment. He had to gamble his life in order to survive.

The apartment was pretty narrow for the massive beast however it didn't stop it's savage nature and followed only it's instincts.

If Carter knew one thing from facing those mutant animals, it was that they to were much more prone to their savage instincts, they were pretty much just driven by their nature and nothing more.

In other words they were dumb.

The beast charged towards Carter who was just inches away from the window behind him, his face looked horrible, he was losing quite a significant amount of blood and he felt like he was about to collapse any second now.

But he had to stay focused, he had to do it at the right time.

Carter watched as the beast dangerously draw close. It was fast so it shouldn't be able to stop just in time, but he had to make sure, he had to guarantee it that it wouldn't be able to stop because if it did and just in time, then he would be killed.

The beast then leaped towards him with it's claw outstretched, but instead of it making Carter scared, it actually did the opposite effect, he showed a smile.

Whether it be animals or mutant animals, Carter guessed that both were the same, stupid creatures driven by nothing but their savage nature.

Roooarrr!!!

The beast roared wildly!

___

You have activated Enchanced speed!

You have activated Enchanced punch!

___

With a savage glint in Carter's eyes, he didn't want to just let the beast die that easily, he had to take revenge for what it did to his left arm as well.

Now!

With the suden boost of speed and his body suddenly feeling light, Carter sidestepped, the beast that had jumped couldn't stop itself as it was suspended mid-air and was about to hit the glass window.

Carter had successfully dodged the deadly clutches of the beast that had ruined his left arm with the use of the skill Enchanced speed.

Carter didn't want it to end that way that easily though, he clutched his right fist as energy welled up.

Having activated the Enchanced punch, Carter let out all of his rage and focused all of his strength to his punch.

Carter's punch made contact as the sound of shattering glass soon echoed. The beast fell through the window and plummeted down outside.

Carter mustered up all his strength and looked out of the window below.

Even though the elevator said that this was the ground floor, it wasn't really meant literally. It was the first floor yes but the complex was structured in the way that the first floor was high up from the actual ground.

The building was actually held up by strong pillars on the ground that made it suspend in the air whilst the floor below was used as a parking area.

The beast that fell through the window fell to the parking area of the building which was quite a few meters high. Surely it died.

Seeing as the corpses that had splattered on the floor didn't move and the blood spilling out, Carter was sure of it.

He became even more sure when a card manifested infront of him.

Carter didn't even care enough though as he walked towards the bathroom of the apartment and then closed the doors. He needed urgent rest, with his left arm and shoulders as it was. He would die sooner or later.

But Carter's eyes didn't lose hope just yet as the card he held in his hand now was a five of clubs.

____

Name: Recovery

Rank: 5 of clubs

Description: Upon activation, will heal the users injuries to optimal state.

____

Shit!

Carter thought that his luck had failed him today and that he was gonna die. But it seemed that luck turned around for him this time.

He didn't even need to think, he immediately equipped the skill and activated it.
