Chapter 12: Vultures

Carter could be seen walking through the hallways littered with blood and corpses, on his hand was a long weapon — a bat, it was the only thing he could use as a weapon in the apartment he had intruded upon, there were also some thick gloves he had chanced upon.

Aside from those, he was now also wearing clothes he found in the apartment so he wasn't naked anymore.

Carter looked at the bat on his hand.

Damn!

If he could see himself right now, he would definitely say he was like a main character in a zombie apocalypse with the bat as a weapon, though it would have been much more cooler if the bat had nails that stuck out of its surface so it would look more bad-ass.

The bat Carter was using as a weapon currently was a metal bat, it was a bit heavy but that would only serve to have a powerful force when swung against a beast.

He bet he looked bad-ass nonetheless.

Carter managed to arrive at the lobby of the building, there, instead of the beautiful and welcoming area of the building, it was the opposite, it was a horrifying sight with the corpses lying everywhere, some with heads cut off and some with their innards out in the open.

The corpses looked pretty fresh, the smell of blood and rotting flesh permeated the air. It was so pungent that it made Carter scrunch his nose and his brows to twitch, the smell was beyond sickening.

But Carter gritted through it. He had to get out of here. He couldn't be bothered by such things anymore, he had to get out and survive or else it would be him lying on the ground with a pool of blood underneath and his head severed from his body.

The sight made Carter more motivated to get stronger and be able to survive against this apocalyptic world.

After going through the massive entrance of the building, he was greeted by a stairs that lead down to the ground. He didn't waste any more time and went down. After a few meters of walk and nothing seemingly out of place or any unforseen happenings, he managed to reach the wide gate of the building.

After he took a step and finally leaving the premise of the massive building, he was greeted by the sight of collapsing buildings on fire, crashed and flipped cars, corpses that seemed to be practically everywhere on sight.

However, Carter hid behind a ruined car upon seeing a beast ravaging the corpse of a poor girl.

Worst of all, it wasn't any beast, it was a beast that made Carter click his tongue. It was a winged a beast — to be exact, a vulture! It was also much larger than an ordinary volture.

Moreover, the vulture wasn't alone, it was with it's friends! There were three of them feasting on the same corpse, Carter's face darkened as the corpse of the girl that they were feasting on — wasn't actually a corpse just yet, the girl was still alive, she was moving though ever so slightly, she was giving a struggle to escape however it was clear that she would be dead any moment now.

Her innards were being pecked and eaten by the vicious vultures.

No wonder they were ganging up on one corpse, it was because it was a fresh meat.

Carter breathed in, just his luck. He immediately encountered a beast and just no ordinary beast, it was one with wings and could of course fly.

Thankfully the distance was a bit far, but he could clearly see the viciousness and cruelness of the beasts, if he were to be seen now, the girl would be the only one getting feasted upon, he would be next.

Carter had to escape now.

He had to go cross to the other side, there, there was a building he could seek refuge in — well, at least probably.

Carter glanced at the building and back to the three winged beasts, he had to find the perfect opportunity to run.

The street was actually quite massive and it would be almost impossible to cross it without stopping and not being found out by those beasts, thankfully there were some cars that he could stop and hide in after crossing a certain distance, so that was convenient.

Carter observed the three beasts movement and once he saw the opportunity, he immediately made a ran for it towards the other car in the distance to hide himself from their eyes.

He had to be quite but also fast about it, errors could lead him to his death. The beasts didn't necessarily have to have the same level of strength to the cat beast on the building he killed, but their wings alone and numbers were enough for him to be under the threath of death.

Even just one winged beast was enough for him to be scared of facing them off. Carter would have probably preferred to fight against beast that walked on all fours rather than fight beasts that could fly.

Hoooo...

Carter managed to breath in relief as he reached the other car safely and without being discovered by the winged beast.

They were still feasting on the poor girl that was on the verge of death. Peeking out of the car, he looked for the perfect opportunity to make a run for it again to the crashed car that was near the building he was trying to reach.

Now!

As Carter made a run for it, his luck seemed to have turned as the winged beast fought amongst themselves as they found themselves eyeing for the same organ of the poor girl they were feasting on.

And one of the vulture managed to spot the running human. It's eyes turned red as it let go of the organ it had on its beck and made a spine-chilling sound.

Krriiiieeeee!!

The other vultures also looked towards where it was looking at. There, they also noticed Carter running, if before he was running whilst being quite and sneakily, now it did not matter.

Fuck!
