Chapter 14: Escape

If it didn't work then that was it, he would die trying.

Carter resolved himself.

Fuck this!

He immediately made a move before everything was too late and he would reach quite the significant height.

Sorry.

Carter thought in his mind as he kicked the corpse on the drivers seat out of the car. The sudden appearance of the corpse falling from the car made one of the vultures curious enough to take a look, it seemed to have taken the corpse that fell to be Carter.

With one of the vultures gone and being on the ground, the balance between the three vultures broke as the car started shifting.

There was Carter's chance!

Scriiiekkkk!

The bird let go of the vehicle.

Quickly, it plummeted down the ground.

Thankfully it wasn't that quite high but considering the weight of the car, it would definitely explode which would give Carter a cover for his escape.

He had thought of this when he was still under the effects of Rapid Recognition and it seemed the route was going that way, fortunately.

Carter stepped out of the car whilst it was still considerably high from the ground. His body had to take the fall, of course Carter planned to minimize the fall damage he would gain.

Tough Skin!

Carter's body was enveloped by a strange energy that fortified his defences.

Ughh!

He released a grunt from his lips but quickly gritted through the bit of pain thanks to the skill in effect. He heard the sound of explosion from behind which quickly prompted him to make a fast run towards the building before the winged beasts noticed him.

Unfortunately for Carter, a little bit sooner after he made a run towards the building, the other vultures that had first went to check for the corpse that he kicked, noticed him and released a terrifying screech.

Sckkriiiiiekk!!

Carter could only curse under his breath but the building was close now, he felt he would be able to reach it in time.

Things would have been easier if he could use the skill 'enchanced speed' but unfortunately it seemed to be unavailable.

Whyy?!

Questions was for later.

His urgent situation came first.

The sound of wind being cut through reverberated in the air as Carter seemed to have underestimated the speed of the winged beasts.

Carter couldn't even turn his neck around in time before he felt himself lift off the ground.

The claws of the wretched vulture dug itself to his shoulder and flapped it's wings, the winged beast was strong enought that it was able to carry Carter off the ground.

Carter grunted as he swung the bat at the beast above him. He was being carried at a dangerous height, anymore would be enough to break his legs if he fell, even with the use of the tough skin skill, which he definitely would — being it the way for the winged beasts to make their prey renderless and helpless.

Before that point, Carter wanted to get out of its grasp and escape before it was too late.

Carter tried to attack the beast with his bat and after some misses, he finally landed a hit. Thankfully it was too late, he fell as the vulture let go of his shoulders and screeched in pain.

Carter grunted and activated the skill 'tough skin'. As usual, unlike the Enchanced speed that suddenly became unavailable, the skill worked as energy suddenly coated his body.

Carter hit the ground and rolled a few feet, however he quickly managed to get a hold of himself and stood up.

Run!

He ran towards the building, he didn't care anymore about the glass windows as he ran through them without hesitation.

The shattering of the glass made a resounding sound, Carter couldn't care less though as his body embraced the glass shards.

After he ran through the glass wall, he quickly tried to find somewhere to hide. His eyes widened as he quickly ran and hid behind a corner.

There was no time to waste. Even though he felt a stinging pain through his forearms and some parts of his body, he could endure it enough and not make a sound as the glass shard that stuck to his body was shallow thanks to his skill 'tough skin'.

When he managed to hide in the corner, the three vultures entered.

It looked around, the room was dark but a beast such as a vulture would be able to smell the blood that had dripped from Carter running through the glass.

However, it seemed to have deemed it not worth it as it turned around and flew out of the building.

Carter heaved a sigh of relief. Finally he had managed to escape the grasp of those winged beasts.

The skill 'tough skin' soon expired.

Carter started taking out the glass shards of his body. Thankfully, probably thanks to him consuming club cards, his body was quite durable coupled up with the defensive skill, the wounds he received weren't severe.

Still, the pain was there, it stung!

Fuck!

Carter couldn't help but curse under his breath.

His luck was really bad, he had to immediately encounter three beasts, winged beasts at that.

Carter took a look around, there didn't seem to be any beasts or any threats. All there were were blood and corpses.

He could only sigh at their misfortunes.

Carter explored the building but made himself conscious of his cautiousness. He was moving sneakily expecting the unexpected, he could never truly let his guard down.

He had to explore with vigilance.

After exploring the building, Carter found himself to be lucky, he didn't encounter anything. No beasts, no survivors, no 'domain of diamonds', when he remembered what happened on the elevator, Carter gulped.

Thankfully though, he did find some snacks from the cabinets of the room.

The building seemed to be a commercial building, there really wasn't anything more aside from the snacks that would help Carter in terms of supplies such as food and water.

But the snacks was something at least...
