Chapter 2: Five Years Later

Five years.

That's how long it had been since Lila vanished.

Five years of searching.

Five years of guilt.

Five years of silence.

 Elias's Life Now

Elias, now 22, lived in the same small town. He worked at the local library, surrounded by books but never reading them. His parents had moved away, unable to bear the memories. He stayed. He couldn't leave. Not yet.

 The Guilt

Every night, Elias dreamed of the forest. He saw Lila's face, heard her laughter, felt her hand slip from his. He woke up sweating, clutching the carved bird she'd left behind. The word *Remember* haunted him.

 The Turning Point

One morning, Elias found a letter in his mailbox. No return address. No stamp. Just his name written in shaky handwriting. Inside was a single sentence: *She's still there.*

 The Decision

Elias stared at the letter, his hands trembling. He knew what he had to do. He packed a bag—food, water, a flashlight, the carved bird. He left a note for his boss: *Gone searching. Don't wait for me.*

 The Journey Back

The forest looked the same—tall, dark, and silent. Elias stood at the edge, his heart pounding. He took a deep breath and stepped inside.

 The Forest's Changes

The trees seemed taller, their branches thicker. The air felt heavier, as if the forest was holding its breath. Elias heard whispers, faint and distant. He followed them, deeper into the forest.

 The First Clue

Elias found a piece of fabric caught on a branch. It was from Lila's favorite jacket. His heart raced. She had been here. Recently.

 The Plot Twist

As Elias walked, he noticed something strange. The trees had names carved into their bark—names he recognized. His parents' names. His own name. And Lila's, over and over. But there was another name, one he didn't know: *The Guardian.*

 The Suspense

Elias felt a chill. Who—or what—was the Guardian? The whispers grew louder, more urgent. He realized they were calling his name.

 The Ending

The chapter ends with Elias standing in a clearing, surrounded by trees. The whispers stop. The forest falls silent. In the center of the clearing is a single tree, its branches twisted into the shape of a face. The face speaks: *Welcome back, Elias.*
