Elias stood in the clearing, staring at the massive tree.

Its twisted trunk formed a face, and its glowing eyes seemed to pierce through him.

Elias thought about Lila, about all the memories they had shared. He thought about the nameless village, about the boy who couldn't remember his own name. He realized something shocking. The forest didn't just take names—it took the things people held most dear.

Elias felt a surge of determination. "I'll give up my memories. Take them." The tree's branches creaked. Are you sure? Once they are gone, you can never get them back. Elias nodded. "I'm sure." The tree's voice grew louder. Then the bargain is made.
