Synopsis
In a world where forgotten names are whispered among the trees, a grieving brother named Elias ventures into the mysterious Forest of Forgotten Names to find his sister, Lila, who vanished without a trace five years ago. The forest is no ordinary place—its trees are alive, their leaves rustling with the stolen memories of those who have disappeared. Elias soon discovers that the forest feeds on the names of the lost, erasing their identities from the world. But when he finally finds Lila, she doesn’t recognize him—or even her own name.

The Forest of Forgotten Names

Elias and Lila walked through the field, the sun warm on their faces.

The forest was gone, but its presence lingered in their minds.

Lila stopped suddenly, her eyes distant.

Lila frowned. "I… I remember something." Elias felt a surge of hope. "What do you remember?" Lila closed her eyes, her face scrunched in concentration. "It's hazy, but… I think it's us. When we were kids." Elias's heart skipped a beat. "What do you see?"

Lila's voice was soft, almost a whisper. "We're in the backyard. There's a tree, and we're climbing it. You're above me, reaching down to help me up." Elias smiled. "I remember that tree. We used to spend hours in it." Lila's eyes fluttered open. "But it's… it's not clear. It's like looking through fog." Elias felt a pang of sadness. "It's okay. It's a start."

Lila looked at Elias, her eyes filled with confusion. "Why can't I remember more?" Elias hesitated. "The forest took your memories. But we'll get them back. I promise." Lila's expression softened. "I believe you." But deep down, Elias wondered if they ever would.

As they walked, Lila's memory lingered in Elias's mind. He thought about the forest, about the price they had paid. He wondered if the memories they had lost were truly gone, or if they were still out there, waiting to be found. He knew they had to keep searching.

The field stretched endlessly before them, the sun dipping below the horizon. Elias felt a pull, deep in his chest, urging him forward. He didn't know where they were going, but he knew they had to keep moving. Lila walked beside him, her hand in his, her eyes still distant.

The chapter ends with Elias and Lila standing at the edge of the field, the stars twinkling above them. Lila looked up, her eyes filled with wonder. "Do you think the forest is still out there?" Elias followed her gaze, his heart heavy. "I don't know. But I hope so." And in the distance, they saw a faint light.
