Seeing Nick's stubbornness, Jim shook his head and said, "About a week ago, this thief came. Every time, it only steals those expensive things to eat!"
"So far, the goods that ghost has eaten are worth more than 8000 ghost coins. If this continues, it won't be long before this store can basically close down."
Although Jim said this, there was no pessimistic emotion on his face. He had two more days before this dungeon ended.
When the time came, he would exit, claim his rewards, and whether the WL Supermarket closed or not would have little to do with him.
"Can't the boss and his wife catch it?" Nick asked.
The couple didn't look like weak ghosts.
"That thief isn't very aggressive, but it's quite something."
"Every time the boss and his wife are about to catch it, they suddenly go into a trance, let the thief go, and then walk back to the front desk in a daze. It takes them a while to snap out of it."
"That thief probably has some ability to drive ghosts insane."
"Moreover, it seems to be injured, and its appetite has been getting bigger and bigger these days!"
"After it finishes eating, it hides in a corner of the supermarket. When it gets hungry, it comes out to steal food again," Jim said.
At first, the thief always messed up the goods Jim had organized, and he had thought about catching it. But he gave up later.
The thief had no intention of harming Jim, so he just let it be.
Hearing this, Nick could basically confirm one thing.
The ghost that the system said could be fused with was most likely this thief.
After a moment of thought, Nick suddenly had a win-win solution.
However, the premise was to catch this thief that stole things! "When does it usually come out to steal food?" Nick asked.
"This guy has a huge appetite lately. It comes out to steal at least three times a day. I reckon it will definitely come out tonight!" Jim asserted.
"Alright, I'll wait for it to come out tonight," Nick said.
He had a whole day.
As long as he returned to the restaurant with ingredient No. 8 before 6 am, he would have completed the task.
Basically, tonight was his only chance!
"You don't have to wait. It will come out boldly," Jim said.
"At first, it was a bit timid, but later it found that no one could do anything about it, so it got bolder and bolder."
"Now, whenever it's hungry, it comes out to eat boldly, treating the supermarket like its own home."
Nick nodded in understanding and didn't ask any more questions.
He walked out of the shelf area.
At the front desk, the boss and his wife seemed to have argued themselves out and had finally calmed down.
The wife pulled out the dagger stuck in her chest and asked Nick with a smile, "So, did you see the thief?"
"No, but your employee Jim told me some information about the thief." "I'll take action tonight."
"Jim," she said. "He's really a rare and conscientious employee.
Every time I check, he has the shelves neatly organized and everything in order!" The wife chuckled, very satisfied with Jim.
Doing one's duty diligently... If you saw him eating instant noodles while playing games inside the shelf, you probably wouldn't say that.
But it has to be said, Nick was truly envious.
Players of horror games under the protection mechanism are incredibly comfortable!
The irritable boss suddenly changed his attitude towards Nick and said, "Catch that damn thief, and we'll sell you whatever ingredients you want!"
"Forget selling, we'll give them to you for free!"
Nick knew what they were thinking and feigned absolute belief as he said, "I'll do my best."
Evening soon fell.
The street was engulfed in darkness, desolate and seemingly full of unknown dangers.
The rolling shutter door was pulled down.
The WL Supermarket was also closed.
The boss and his wife were nowhere to be seen.
At this moment, Jim emerged from the shelf area, skillfully made his way to the front desk, and prepared something delicious to eat. He also pulled out a bottle of yellow beer from somewhere.
Jim sighed with satisfaction, "Finally, a proper meal after eating instant noodles all day."
"Why didn't you dare come out during the day?" Nick asked.
"That's my working hours. If I leave the work area without permission, it will break the protection mechanism."
"Without the protection mechanism, won't the boss and his wife tear me apart?" Jim said.
Although the protection mechanism is set up for players, there are rules that must be followed!
Once the rules are violated, the protection mechanism will be broken and lose its effect!
So, no matter how stuffy the shelves are or how hungry he is, Jim has to stay inside.
Nick suddenly realized that he hadn't studied enough about horror games. Although Jim seems a bit foolish, he has a firm grasp on the protection mechanism!
Perhaps that's why he's been able to live comfortably until now.
Bang!!
The shelves in the darkness suddenly collapsed, and goods flew everywhere, making a loud noise.
Jim took a big sip of his yellow beer and said, "See, the gluttonous ghost is out!"
"Aren't you going to help me catch it?" Nick looked at Jim, who remained unmoved.
Jim put down the duck skeleton he was eating and said, "You can't catch it. It can disappear in the blink of an eye. And even if you do catch it, the ghost can possess you, make you feel dizzy, and then run away."
"Don't I know how many times the boss and his wife have been frustrated? "
"As long as it doesn't bother me, I won't actively provoke that troublesome guy!"
Jim peeled a roasted sausage and ate it while talking.
Nick didn't say anything and walked towards the shelf area. The gluttonous ghost in the display shelves heard the footsteps and vanished in a flash.
Nick looked at the torn packaging goods everywhere. This guy is quite picky and only eats expensive things!
"Brother, I have something delicious here. Come out and let's be friends, how about it?" Nick shouted.
Outside, Jim rolled his eyes when he heard this and said, "If that can lure out the ghost, I'll eat shit upside down!"
Seeing no movement, Nick smiled and took out the Tai Sui meat from his toolbar, placing it on the ground.
Nick couldn't see or smell anything attractive about the Tai Sui meat, but since the system said so, he wanted to give it a try.
Little did he know that when the Tai Sui meat was exposed to the air, an invisible and irresistible crazy smell for ghosts had already spread.
In the darkness, the gluttonous ghost's eyes lit up, and its body was uncontrollably attracted to it.
Hearing some movement, Nick turned his head and saw a dark shadow slowly emerging from the darkness.
It was an invisible and illusory ghost.
Its only characteristic was that its body was covered with bloody red eyes, which looked very scary!
Nick waved friendly at it and said, "Hello."
It looked at Nick, and the next second, the piece of Tai Sui meat was in its hand.
Without any hesitation, it swallowed it in one bite. Then, its nine bloody and weird eyes slightly narrowed, revealing a look of enjoyment.
"You ate my food, so now we can be friends, right?" Nick said.
"Idiot!" Who knew that the gluttonous ghost would spit out human words, filled with deep sarcasm, and turn to leave.
"Sigh, I just wanted to make a friend. It's a pity I have so much Tai Sui meat on me. I don't know who to share it with!" Nick sighed, pretending to be regretful and lonely.
The gluttonous ghost stopped and asked, "You have more?"
"I have plenty on me. Do you want to be friends with a rich guy like me? I can feed you until you're full!" Nick said kindly.
The gluttonous ghost wasn't buying it and sneered.
"You humans are the most cunning. Don't take me for a fool. Be friends? You just want to catch me, right?"
"You have something delicious on you. Why should I waste so many words with you when I can just grab it?"
Nick's expression froze.
"Seems... it makes sense."
