Chapter 15

I entered the office. Immediately, I noticed Chris sitting on sofa number 4, watching me. Marcus, on his side, quickly approached as soon as he saw me.

My cheeks warmed up. Now that I'm in a janitress uniform, pushing a yellow cart, the gap between us becomes more apparent. Marcus in a sky-blue polo shirt, Chris in a grey v-neck, and Logan in a long-sleeved shirt folded up to the shoulders.

"Thanks, Tam. You may go," said Logan to the lady he was talking to.

"Hi, Cassidy!" Marcus greeted me as he approached my cart. I couldn't look at him. I just started sweeping the floor.

 "Hello, Marcus!"

 "You busy?" Marcus asked.

"Obviously, Marcus," Logan irritably said from his table.

I didn't lift my gaze. I just continued what I was doing. This reminded me of where I truly belong—a slap of reality. Why I've been dreaming these past few days that my life could be different, I don't know.
