Chapter8 : Save David and Hear Disaster -2

The four of them moved cautiously down the library corridor, their footsteps barely making a sound on the cold, tiled floor. As they approached the classroom across the hall, the atmosphere grew heavy with the weight of the situation. They had expected trouble, but nothing could have prepared them for the scene they encountered once inside. The room was a chaotic mess. Several zombies were shuffling aimlessly around, their grotesque forms jerking unnaturally as they groaned in the silence. In the far corner of the room, a terrified figure was trapped, his back pressed against the wall, his wide eyes begging for help.

"We need to be careful," Tom whispered urgently, his hand tightening around the makeshift glass bottle filled with the volatile concoction he had prepared. "These zombies look more aggressive than usual."

Jack's expression hardened as he surveyed the room. "I'll draw them away," he said, determination in his voice. Without waiting for a response, he dashed into the open, deliberately making noise to catch the zombies' attention.

The creatures turned at the sound, their dull, hungry eyes locking onto Jack. Without hesitation, they began to lurch toward him. Jack's heart raced as he skillfully darted around the room, narrowly avoiding the clumsy but dangerous creatures. "Hurry!" he shouted, his voice rising above the growls and snarls. "Go! Save him!"

Lily and May exchanged a glance before charging into the classroom. May's movements were swift and purposeful as she reached into her bag and pulled out a steel pen. She aimed carefully, her hand steady as she thrust it into the skull of the nearest zombie. There was a sickening crunch as the creature crumpled to the floor. One after another, she dispatched them, her strikes quick and precise.

"Move faster!" May yelled, her voice filled with urgency. She grabbed the terrified man by the arm and yanked him toward the door. "We don't have much time!"

Tom wasn't far behind, his steps quick and purposeful. He lit the fuse of the glass bottle in his hand, his eyes fixed on the approaching horde. With a quick motion, he threw it into the middle of the room. The bottle exploded with a deafening roar, sending shards of glass and flames in all directions. The zombies were blown apart in a chaotic spray of blood and limbs. Seizing the opportunity, Tom motioned for the others to run, and together, they bolted out of the room, barely escaping the explosion.

Back in the laboratory, the four of them took a moment to catch their breath. The man they had rescued was still shaking, his face pale with fear. Slowly, he regained some composure and introduced himself.

"I'm David," he said, his voice hoarse but full of gratitude. "I'm a high school student. I've been stuck here for days."

Jack clapped him on the shoulder, offering a reassuring smile. "It's alright. You're safe now."

David let out a breath of relief. "Thank you, thank you so much. If it weren't for you guys, I don't know what would have happened to me."

Just as they were beginning to relax, a sudden crackling sound came from the radio equipment in the corner of the room. Jack immediately turned to it, adjusting the frequency until he found a clear signal.

"This is an official announcement," a calm voice came through the speaker. "This is just a minor zombie virus outbreak, localized and small-scale. Please remain calm. Rescue teams are on their way."

The voice was soothing, but the words did little to ease their nerves. Just as they were about to breathe a sigh of relief, another voice cut in, its tone much more urgent and grim.

"This is not a normal virus outbreak," the new voice said, its harshness sending a chill down their spines. "The mutations are unlike anything we've seen before, and they're spreading globally. In some areas, the zombies have developed traits similar to animals—wings, speed, and strength. In others, they've even gained intelligence and are organizing themselves into groups, building armies to overthrow humanity. In some places, the virus has mutated in such a way that the infected dissolve into blood when bitten. The entire world is descending into chaos. The future of humanity is in grave jeopardy."

The room fell into an eerie silence, the weight of the announcement settling heavily over them. Jack, his face pale, gripped the radio tightly as the last words echoed in his mind. "It's worse than we thought," he muttered, more to himself than anyone else. "The danger is far beyond what we imagined."

Lily stood motionless, her eyes narrowing as she processed the information. May crossed her arms tightly, her brow furrowed in thought. They had known the situation was dire, but now, the reality of what they were facing seemed almost too much to bear. David, still shaken, clung to the edge of the table, his face a mask of disbelief.

"Do you think it's true?" May asked, her voice low but laced with worry.

"I don't know," Jack replied, his voice heavy with uncertainty. "But one thing is clear—we can't take this lightly. We need to stay focused. Whatever's coming, we have to be ready."

They exchanged glances, each person silently acknowledging the gravity of the situation. This was no longer just about survival; it was about finding a way to fight back against the horrors that were sweeping across the globe. And the path ahead was uncertain, fraught with danger at every turn.

They had no choice but to keep moving forward, together.
