The story unfolds in a fictional steampunk city where the protagonist, Lancelot, is a highly skilled clockmaker. By chance, while repairing a pocket watch, he triggers an ancient curse, causing black veins symbolizing the power of an evil deity to emerge on his right hand, thereby drawing him into a conspiracy that spans time and space. Desperate to save his sister from a wasting disease, Lancelot delves into the black market, dabbles in forbidden alchemy, and even participates in a blasphemous ritual held within a steam church. He replaces his heart with a living gear, gaining the ability to manipulate metal but also bearing the heavy burden of needing to consume iron weekly.
