Sitting up straight and almost sinking into her chair, the CEO looked completely exhausted.
A deep sigh escaped her lips, the smell of cleaning and papers still in the air.
Diana didn't want to spend another second in that room. She could see the cobalt blue sky outside, as dark as her dark circles.
Rubbing her eyes, she got up, grabbed her coat and left, only stopping on the way to pick up her secretaries as well.
"Right! Cheers to our hard work!"
"Yay!"
Staining the glass with pink lipstick, the cold bubbles touched her tongue. A bitter taste spread, soon being softened by Diana's accustomed palate.
Lately she had consumed more than necessary. Not just beer.
Picking up some of the delicious snacks on the table, she was afraid that her dark circles wouldn't be the only thing returning.
Choosing one of the best places in town created no regrets. The room was simple, airy, with windows and a balcony, and the best part was that its table and cushions were on a comfortable tatami mat on the floor.
"What's wrong, Diana?" Carla noticed her discomfort.
Diana seemed to have come back to life, tasting the saltiness of the meat as if it were precious.
"She's just missing someone...", Ema guessed, but when she saw her furrowed eyebrows, she kicked again. "And afraid of turning into a whale before he comes back."
"Ouch! That's an abuse of power."
She wasn't the only one who knew how to kick.
"Oh, sorry, just stretching a bit."
Carla watched the pair with sweet eyes. At first she felt out of place in the middle of the conversations. Today she was the one who started them.
"I admit that I also have the same concerns."
"Uh, how scary, Ana. Since when did you get that look?"
"What? It's my usual look," Diana pouted.
"Without the dark circles and with a Nero...", Ema stopped to poke Carla and point. "See! Don't say that name again, it's bad luck. A witch always shows up... Oh! Stop it!"
A little tired and very amused, Carla took a step back from that little war.
It had been her pleasure in the last few days to see the two tormenting each other while they almost kissed with so much love.
"Calm down, not my breasts! You alien!"
Diana's victory quickly turned into defeat, when Ema pinned her to the ground.
"Oh, they got bigger. That's what happens when I keep feeding you, bitch!"
"Pftt!", Carla couldn't keep a straight face. Remembering her first day there, she felt like she had finally found her place.
"Come on, guys... I haven't even eaten yet. I have to abuse the hospitality a little more."
And she really wanted to. Her hands were never far from the sushi, her salary hadn't suffered for a few weeks because of those happy nights.
"And Ema still says she feeds me, you should kiss your boss's feet", after a war, the two now looked like a couple.
With Ema sitting on her lap, Diana seemed a little happier. As if being on the other side of the table was a wound.
"You're the rich one here, not me. When you drink too much, talking about your handsome and rich boyfriend, I'm the one who pays the price. Three times, on top of that."
"That's a lie. It was only twice, and I told you to get your card out of your purse," their hands didn't stay still. The taste of beer and meat left no room for arguments.
"Not that, idiot..."
"Who's the idiot?"
"I mean, I don't even date, but I listen to your problems, I wanted someone to complain about him... A better salary, too," Carla shook her head.
This was also repeated, the same joke over and over, but if Diana wanted it, she was the one who took a step back.
'No, you're going to enslave me...'
"So, how about I make it smaller?"
Ema turned her head, their faces so close that Carla raised an eyebrow at their friendship.
"I-increase it!", she was still chewing. "A raise, I need it, but no extra work."
Diana remained silent, just shrugging.
"Huh, how about you two come over to my place after this? I wanted to watch movies... What's up?"
"Nothing... It's a good idea," her boss said 'ok', smiling.
"You should talk more, don't be grumpy like your boss, you're so cute, Carla," seeing Diana pulling her ear was cute.
"What about my boss? Is he not coming back?", Carla frowned at that audacity.
"I already said I'm not going to change"
"My boss has the last word."
"No drinks for you until you control your tongue."
"Weren't you calling me a snake? Okay... I'll stop."
"I don't know when he'll be back. But I admit I got used to it..."
The secretaries' expressions were no better than hers.
"Ah... I want a boyfriend to miss. To sleep in bed and wake up remembering him."
Carla's heart raced, exchanging the glass for more sushi. Her gaze was lost watching the drops slowly run down the glass, almost a reminder.
"A fiancé... And he's worse than a boyfriend. He's more like a stray cat that comes, licks your hand and then bites its owner."
"I can tell you the same thing. Sometimes you're the one who seems like a sly cat."
"Ah! Don't bother me... Here, eat this." They both laughed. "See? You're the little animal here," Ema didn't seem happy.
"I don't know what he's going to do...", that was only half the truth. Diana looked away. "But it better be quick."
"Quench your thirst and the longing will go away with it," Carla filled the glasses.
"Finally! Thinking about it, what kind of drunk are you, my friend?"
"The kind who sleeps like an angel."
"We're the same, then!" Ema retorted.
Diana looked closely at that face.
"More like a little devil. She sleeps with her hands inside her pajamas. That's when she has pajamas... Oh!"
The girls froze when the attendant came in with the extras. Diana smiled, holding back her laughter.
"Idiot!"
"I only tell the truth."
