Why always a bar?

"So you fired my boss... and left me without a job?"

Ema put an arm around her friend's shoulders. Forcing a toast, their mugs touched. She smiled before commenting:

"Don't worry, being the CEO's secretary has its advantages, I'll teach you how to avoid work. Now with two of us, we can even ask for a raise."

Diana shook her head.

"No way. With two of you the workload will decrease and Carla will leave you behind so it's more likely that I'll cut your salary."

Ema made a sour expression that improved her friend's mood.

'These two love each other, don't they? It'll be hard to get between them...'

Carla took a long sip and thought for a moment, before shrugging.

"At least we've become friends, I can still see him when I visit you, but... I'm more worried about that expression on your face... Haven't you been sleeping?"

"Yes?... or maybe not?", Diana frowned. The girls questioned her with their eyes. "My dreams have been changing. I wake up and it feels like minutes have passed. It's like a super short movie, I fall asleep, watch it, blink and it's over. Then I try to remember but I'm too sleepy to even think about it."

"Weird. Were you cursed or what?"

Diana nodded. She had thought about it too.

"And he?... did he realize that?", Carla touched on the sore spot.

"That idiot?... He ran away from home," the two stopped on the way to grab one of the snacks on the table. "I had forgotten about that, but he has an apartment. A very nice one, by the way, since he said he had to go back."

"What!? And you let him?", Ema almost screamed.

Diana just shrugged.

"I trust him."

"Even after seeing the women he's hanging out with?...", when Ema touched the wound, one or two veins appeared on Diana's forehead. "Yes... Even with them."

"You don't look very convincing..."

"Hah! You know. I don't need to hear that from the girl who's still single..."

"Pft."

"Ahh!", hearing that blasphemy, Ema even forgot her laughter as she hid behind her friend. "See, Carla, this is what I have to put up with! This emotional blackmailer."

"Huh," Carla needed more wine, and fast. Suddenly she thought of something to say. "Do you know what an emotional blackmailer is?"

Ema looked like a child who had just knocked over the vase in the living room. The silence in the air was thick.

"Do you know?", she returned the question.

"No. But I don't think it has much to do with the situation..."

Ema looked away.

"So what's the word? I need to file a complaint with the labor union."

The two laughed while the jokester had a smile drunk on beer and vanity.

Carla took a last sip before saying what she thought.

"A lot of love involved? Sisterly love and I think a possible couple?... the secret love of the boss and her secretary... how perverted..."

"Huh, what's up?"

"You know, the quiet ones are the hardest, huh? Boss and secretary... so you've thought about this before?"

Carla froze. But Ema hadn't said her part.

"You know that your boss's fiancée is listening to everything, right? What kind of fantasy goes through that little face... Thinking about it, since we're partners, I'm rooting for you, call me if you can... Ouch,"

Ema was kicked before she could expose her drunken side. Inside, Carla felt calmer with that walking comic relief.

"You see this! Emotional and physical aggression, I'm going to the police tomorrow."

Carla laughed as she watched the two of them get closer. The drink really did make them feel more relaxed. Although Diana's thoughtful and tired facade was still there...

"I guess you're right, after all... Domestic violence is not good. I'll be your witness, but you have to share the money with me..."

Diana made a shocked and hurt expression.

"What money?"

"For moral damages... You can retire after that."

Ema's eyes shone for a moment.

'She really is a greedy little bunny, isn't she?' Diana smiled and put her drink aside.

"Let's eat soon. I have to go home early this time. I want to sleep..."

"We can talk while we eat... I still have to receive my pension."

"Oh! Now I have to support you?"

"I'm the victim! You attacked me!"

"Hehehe, now they really look like a couple."

Diana narrowed her eyes at her friend and said in a soft, almost coquettish voice.

"You have a very distorted view of what a couple is, don't you my angel? Maybe you should get a boyfriend."

"Hahahahahah! Ah... Hahaha!"

When Carla's jaw dropped to the table, Ema burst out laughing, throwing herself on the floor like a turtle with a stomachache.

"Okay," Carla regained her composure. "Let's talk on the way to the police station."

"We can't...", Diana said between bites. "... I have to go home. Tomorrow I'll let you report me."

Ema finally came to her senses.

"Before that, at least tell me if you're going?"

"Huh?"

"Camping in the mountains, on Saturday. I sent you a message!", a look of doubt passed through both of their eyes.

"Oh, I will," Carla nodded simply. She had been thinking about that.

Ema smiled and turned to Diana.

Her mind was calculating hours and tasks that she had been ignoring until...

"Okay! But bring chocolates, marshmallows and all the drinks... Since we're going to walk, I want to get lost a little."

Like an excited child, Ema filled another glass and drank it all in one gulp.
