Chapter 12.

Krystie only took fifteen minutes to arrive at the hospital, a drive that would have taken her twenty-five minutes under normal circumstances.

Earlier on, when Krystie had just started the engine, she had received another message from Mark, who had claimed that Chloe, Krystie's twin sister, was also a victim of the road accident that had occurred just a few minutes ago on the highway.

Immediately Krystie arrived at the hospital she was faced with the most chaotic scene she had ever witnessed.

As alarms blared and patients flooded in, those with minor injuries being assisted in while the critically injured were being wheeled in by the nurses, Krystie quickly activated her training, drawing upon her knowledge and experience to navigate the crisis. Good thing there were no deaths reported, and the injuries were not severe.

With a calm smile, Krystie prioritized the patients' care, swiftly handling the most critical cases while delegating simple cases to nurses and other staff members. She assessed each patient's condition with precision and compassion. One thing that has always been Krystie's weakness is losing a patient just before her own eyes, it always breaks her down beyond repair.

Deep down, Krystie was so eager to know about her sister's condition, but watching how the injured little children were crying, Krystie couldn't help but empathize with them, making sure that all the children had been attended to, she was sure wherever her sister was must have been attended to.

Despite the intensity of the situation, Krystie took time to comfort frightened patients and reassure worried family members, offering words of empathy and reassurance amidst the chaos, reassuring them that everything would be okay.

In the group, there was an elderly lady, all by herself at the farthest end of the reception, she didn't have anyone by her side. Krystie

sympathized with her more when she saw how she was ignored throughout as there was no one to lead her in.

Taking the responsibility on herself, Krystie felt a sense of duty to assist in any way she could. The woman's face was etched with pain, and her eyes were filled with fear and uncertainty. Without hesitation, Krystie approached her, offering a gentle smile and a reassuring hand to help her as she led her into the emergency section to attend to her wounds, good thing they were not severe, just a little scratch on her leg.

"Hello, my name is Krystie. I'm here to help you," Krystie said softly, her voice infused with warmth and compassion to the lady as she gave her a reassuring smile making the old lady relax.

The elderly woman looked up at Krystie with tear-filled eyes, grateful for the comforting presence. She reached out and grasped Krystie's hand tightly, drawing strength from her kindness as Krystie assisted her into the emergency section.

In between medical interventions, Krystie engaged the woman in conversation, learning about her life, her family, and her hopes for the future, especially her grandson. She listened attentively, offering words of support and empathy, easing the woman's fears and loneliness.

Throughout the conversation, the old lady had only one thing that she was complaining to Krystie about. She spoke about how her stupid grandson was old enough to get married, yet he had not gotten himself even a girlfriend. One thing that made Krystie wonder how old the brat grandson was, but she dared not ask.

'Or maybe he is gay!' Krystie thought to herself but never dared to speak out loud lest she shattered the old lady's dreams of getting to see her great-grandchildren.

It just didn't make any sense to Krystie that someone who is old enough to get married didn't have a girlfriend, if not a fiancee.

Speaking of marriage, it was just then that Krystie remembered that she had just gotten married earlier in the morning to a stranger, it sounded funny to her.

"My grandson is single, and he is handsome and rich. Do you want me to introduce him to you?" the question from the old lady made Krystie pause in her tracks. She had already seen this coming, more so with the way the lady kept on praising her grandson.

"That is very nice of you grandmother, but I am sorry, I'm married!" Krystie spoke as she resumed treating the lady's wounds. She had not expected their conversation to change its course.

After a little more conversation with the lady, Krystie promised to keep in touch with her. After all the lady had insisted on it, Krystie found her to be so nice that she couldn't resist her, she reminded her of her late grandmother back in Italy.

Krystie led her back to the reception desk as she went back to resume her duties, she had to find her sister.

As the minutes passed and the emergency began to wane, Krystie breathed in relief, though with exhaustion and satisfaction.

"Mark, where is Chloe, Krystie asked immediately she entered their office as she shared the same workspace with Mark.

"She already left. She was not injured at all, and she claimed she had a lot to deal with at the office," Mark said, but he remembered something.

'What a workaholic,' Krystie thought internally rolling her eyes.

"Krystie, where were you this morning? I came over to pick you up from your house, but you were not in. "

Krystie was not sure how she was supposed to explain to Mark that she had just gotten married to a stranger that she just met the previous day. She would have wished to lie but sooner or later she would still be found out, so she saw no need to hide it from him.

"You did what?"

Mark exclaimed spitting out the water that he was drinking, his eyes widening with surprise immediately Krystie said that she had gone to get a marriage certificate.

Krystie carefully explained to him the circumstances that had led to her getting married to Lucian, she didn't want any confrontation with him over something so simple that she could avoid.

It only came as a relief to Mark when she explained to him that they were only getting married contractually, and no feelings attached, for only one year.

Krystie however, hid her main reason as to why she had agreed to get married to Lucian, she wanted it to be her little secret as of now.
