Chapter 6

Saving Dylan

I stood frozen in disbelief as Lyra, my inner wolf, whined in excitement. "Mate," she insisted again.

Her voice was a whisper in my mind but it felt like a heart wrenching thunder strike in my heart. Alpha Knox was my mate? How could this even be possible?

I shook my head and took a hesitant step back. I didn't care why it was possible, I just didn't want anything to do with it.

But when I moved back, Lyra became more erratic. She was jumping in excitement and urging me to run into his arms.

"Please Melissa, Go to him! He's our mate!" she pleaded, her joy was immeasurably and I didn't want to make her sad, but the very thought of being with Knox again made my skin crawl.

"No Lyra!" I refused. "I'd rather die than accept Knox as my mate after everything he'd done to me. He was the one who broke my heart, humiliated me for not having a wolf, he stomped on my heart and didn't give a damn, and worst of all,he kidnapped my children!" I yelled at Lyra.

Just the mere idea of being tied to him in any kind of way was adisgusting. And besides, he was married to Susie, my hateful brat of a sister. Surely, the Moon Goddess had made a mistake.

There was no way were mates!

I glanced at Knox, and felt a shiver run down my spine as I noticed his reaction.

His dark eyes were like lasers, completely focused on only me. It was like a predator eying his prey. Then I noticed he was clenching and unclenching his fists as if he was fighting an urge to reach out and grab me.

He knows. The suddenly realization hit me hard. He knew I was his mate and the mating bond was urging him to take me too.

But that would never ever happen. I would never accept it.

With that thought in mind, I decided that I needed to escapebefore Knox was tempted into acting on the mating bond.

I quickly turned on my heel and took off running toward the gate. I needed to get far away from here before he felt the urge to claim me.

My heart was pounding in my ears as I ran. But the sound of heavy footsteps behind me told me that Knox was right behind me, chasing me.

Shit!

"He's right behind you Melissa!" Lyra urged, but I didn't need her to tell me that. I pushed myself harder and was almost at the hate.

But just when my hand touched the cold metal of the gate,Knox's strong arms suddenly wrapped around my waist, and lifted me into the air, and away from my freedom.

"No! Let me go!" I screamed, thrashing wildly in his grip but Knox was too strong.

My panic skyrocketed, and without thinking, I allowed my claws to elongate, and scratched them hard across his neck.

Knox gasped in pain, and released me as he stumbled back. His hand flew to the fresh wound and his eyes widened when he saw blood.

I landed on my feet, but I was out of breath. Still, I couldn't help the bitter laugh that escaped me when I saw his shocked face.

"Melissa," Knox gasped, his eyes wide as they met mine. "You have a wolf?" He asked in disbelief.

The surprise in his voice was almost comical, and I couldn't resist the opportunity to mock him. "What, you thought I'd never get a wolf? Oh you thought that I'd always be the weak, scared little girl you can take advantage of and control?" I snarled.

Knox's face hardened and his eyes narrowed into a dangerousslits. "Watch your fucking tongue, Melissa. I am still your Alpha."

I snorted and crossed my arms defiantly. "What the hell are you talking about?! I don't have an Alpha. Remember? You banished me six years ago and said if I ever come back, you would kill me. I don't have a pack, and you mean absolutely nothing to me now."

Knox's jaw tightened, but I continued without a hint of fear. "The only reason I'm here is because of my sons. My sons, Knox. And if you harm even a single hair on their heads, I vow to the goddess that you'll have a lot more problems to deal withthan you have ever imagined."

We both glared at each other. There was anger in his dark eyes and defiance in mine. No one was willing to back down.

But before either of us could speak again, Knox's Beta, Andrew, suddenly came running toward us, with beads of sweat on his forehead. He quickly leaned in and whispered something to his Alpha.

His words were urgent but too low for human ears. But, my super hearing was able to pick up every single word. "...problem. Something's wrong with one of the twins Sir."

Knox whipped around to look at him. "What?!"

Andrew looked panicked. "One of her sons, something is very wrong with him sir." He said and hot panic immediately flooded my veins.

My heart dropped into my stomach. "What happened to my son?" I demanded, but Knox stayed quiet.

I felt like I was about to loose my mind. "Knox! What have you done to my children?"

Knox looked at me, and his expression suddenly looked sad. "Melissa, I'm sorry—" he began and I felt my blood freeze.
