The morning air was thick with tension. The entire pack was on high alert, warriors patrolling the borders, scouts reporting every movement in the surrounding forest. Even the usual hum of the village had quieted—everyone knew what was coming.

Selene stood on the balcony of the packhouse, looking over the territory. She had barely slept after the rogue attack, her mind racing with strategies and worst-case scenarios.

Beside her, Rylen's presence was solid, a source of comfort. He had been awake just as long, preparing defenses and checking on the warriors. "They'll attack soon," he said. "We need to be ready for anything."

Selene nodded. "We need more than just numbers—we need a strategy. If they break through our borders, they'll slaughter everyone."

Rylen turned to her, his golden eyes dark with thought. "What are you thinking?"
