Chapter 29 – A Rising threat
The air was colder than usual that night. A sharp wind whispered through the trees, carrying with it the faint scent of something dark — something wrong. Selene lay in bed, her mind restless despite her exhaustion. Rylen had insisted she sleep, but her thoughts kept circling back to the rogue's warning:
"You should've stayed hidden."
What did it mean?
Tired of tossing and turning, Selene pushed off her blankets and slipped out of bed. The packhouse was quiet, except for the faint crackling of the fireplace in the main hall. She moved silently down the stairs, wrapping a shawl around her shoulders.
The cold air hit her as she stepped outside. The moon shone brightly overhead, casting silver light across the pack's land. Guards patrolled the borders, their sharp eyes scanning the shadows.
But something still felt... off.
"Can't sleep?"
