The Hunt Begins

Chapter 41: The Hunt Begins

The morning light barely touched the horizon when Damien opened the door to the safe room. The air smelled of blood and smoke — a clear sign that the night's battle had left scars on his pack. He stepped out first, scanning the hallway before turning back to Selene.

"It's clear," he said softly.

Selene followed him, her steps hesitant. The once-proud pack house now bore deep marks of the attack. Broken furniture littered the hallway, and claw marks scraped the walls. The scent of burnt wood filled her nose.

"Damien…" Her voice trembled as she stared at the destruction.

He wrapped an arm around her, holding her close. "I'll fix this," he promised. "I'll make sure they never touch you again."

But Selene's gaze wasn't on the damage — it was on the bodies. Three wolves lay motionless near the staircase. Warriors she knew.

Tears welled in her eyes. "They... they died protecting us."
