Assasination

Although the county lord mansion was vast, it wasn't too big and Lin Qing soon found a guard. she heaved a sigh of relief and immediately ordered him to mobilize the guards. As the assassin was searching quietly he was startled to hear the sound of boots approaching and they sounded numerous. He was surprised, could they have been on to him, but how?

The assassin was furious, not only had he failed he had even been intercepted and was almost captured. He immediately decided to break out and chose a point. He exchanged blows with the two guards and using his qi sent them flying.

However this seemed to alert other guards as he could hear multiple figures rushing towards him. As he rushed out after a sending the two guards flying he was startled to see his targets before him.

He was tempted to go ahead and slay them but valuing his life he immediately leapt up to escape. As an expert in the innate stage he could easily run up walls and leap across buildings, however how could the guards let him leave him leave so easily.

They immediately shot out arrows and intercepted him. The vice captain was startled to see that the was indeed an assas in. As the one in charge of security in the county lord mansion, the fact that an assassin had not only been able to infiltrate the county lord mansion but also almost assassinate the madam meant that he was in deep trouble.

If he allowed the assassin to escape unscathed perhaps he may not even be able to keep his life not to mention his job.

The assassin was bogged down dodging the arrows flying towards him. Other guards also arrived and engaged him. He could send them back but their numbers made it difficult to escape.

The vice captain seeing this immediately made a move, although he wasn't yet in the innate realm he was close so he was able to hold out. As he blocked a strike from the assassin, his men took the chance to send out their own strikes. The assassin was struck and blood spewed out. Lin Qing was nearby and seeing this quickly covered Wu Tian's eyes.

In no time the assassin was subdued. The vice-captain, hid body bearing a few cuts and bruises walked up to them and reported "Madam, the assassin has been captured. We'll take him in and interrogate him. I'll make sure he spills everything he knows."

Lin Qing nodded. "Good work vice-captain Hou. Tighten up the security and make sure that he didn't have any accomplices." She knew that this wasn't the time to hem and haw but instead ensure their safety and the stability of their home."

She then looked at Wu Tian beside her, this time it was thanks to him that they had been able to avoid this calamity. If that assassin had been able to sneak up on her then things would have gotten troublesome.

She once more praised herself for taking him in, due to her background she had certain knowledge on spiritual beings and had selfish reasons for adopting him but as she had taken care of him she had come to love him as her own son.

She snapped from her thoughts and went to look at her own room, finding it in shambles she ordered the maids to clean up while confirming if anyone had been injured by the assassin.

She also ordered Wei Lin to take Wu Tian to bed as she herself felt too stimulated to go back to sleep.

Meanwhile as Wu Tian was put to bed his mind was focused on another matter. The fact that the lingering heightened connection to the world had disappeared completely and so had the tingly feeling that warned him of danger.

Although he could still vaguely feel where his mom and mom and Wei Lin were, it was faint and vague. What bothered him was that if he couldn't sense danger anymore he might be helpless next time it came.

He didn't want anything to happen to his family. Especially recently there had been two attempts on his mom, granted he knew his mom would be more cautious but still.
