Betrayal from Within

That evening, Lena gathered with the top leadership of the Alliance. The situation had escalated, and she needed their support more than ever. She had always valued their counsel, trusted them, but now she saw the tension in their eyes—the unease, the distrust. She could feel the walls closing in.

"Commander Lena," General Valros, a hardened leader of the Ittalians, spoke up with surprising boldness. "We've been at your side through all of this, but now it's time for honesty. The core is warping our strategies. It's warping you."

Lena's pulse quickened, but she refused to show weakness. "The core is our only chance to defeat the Rhytil. You all know that."

Valros stepped closer, his tone lowering. "Do we? Or is it your only chance? You've become more unpredictable, Lena. You're making decisions that are… troubling."

The silence that followed was suffocating. The others shifted uncomfortably, but none spoke up. Lena clenched her fists, her heart racing as the weight of her position pressed down on her. The core had given her clarity, power, and direction—but it had also made her vulnerable in ways she hadn't anticipated. Her allies were beginning to see her as a threat, and she feared she might be losing them.

"I'm not the enemy here," Lena said, her voice trembling despite her efforts to maintain control. "I'm still fighting for us."

But Valros wasn't convinced. He turned to the others. "We can't let one person's obsession with the core dictate our future. It's time to take action."
