Trust in the Broken Pieces

Lena walked through the war room with a sense of purpose, the hum of activity around her barely registering as she processed the weight of the moment. She had made her intentions clear in the Council meeting, but words alone would never be enough to rebuild the fractures that had spread through the Alliance. Now, it was time for action—and that meant sitting down with each of the leaders to address their concerns and bring them back into the fold.

Her first stop was Commander Tavon, the one who had always been fiercely loyal, but whose trust had wavered after the core's influence.

Tavon was alone in his office, the walls adorned with tactical maps and holographic simulations of battlefronts. His back was turned as Lena entered, but he didn't need to turn around to sense her presence.

"Lena," Tavon greeted her, his voice tinged with a quiet wariness. "To what do I owe the visit?"

Lena took a deep breath, trying to keep her emotions in check. "I know the core affected everything we were working toward," she began, her voice calm but firm. "But I need your support, Tavon. We need to unite the Alliance if we're going to survive. I'm asking you, as a commander who's been with me since the beginning—are you with us?"

Tavon turned slowly, his gaze unreadable. He stared at her for a long moment before finally speaking. "I've been with you since the start, Lena," he said quietly, his voice betraying a hint of regret. "But this war—this fight against the Rhytil—it's not just about leadership anymore. It's about the trust we put in each other. And I can't help but wonder if we've been led astray for too long."

Lena's heart sank. Tavon had always been a voice of reason, and to hear doubt in his words cut deeper than she'd expected. But she couldn't afford to back down now.

"I made mistakes. I can't change that," Lena admitted, her eyes meeting Tavon's. "But I'm not asking you to follow me blindly. I'm asking you to trust that I'll do everything I can to rebuild this Alliance and lead us to victory. I've let the core define my decisions for too long, but from now on, I lead with my heart—and with all of you."

There was a long silence between them. Finally, Tavon nodded slowly, his expression softening. "Then lead us, Lena. I'm with you."

Lena let out a breath she didn't realize she had been holding. The weight of Tavon's support lifted some of the burden from her shoulders, but she knew this was only the first step in a much larger process. Trust would take time, and she had to work to earn it from each and every member of the Alliance.
