In the most famous seafood restaurant, the large wooden table was laden with delicacies from land and sea - abalone, crab, sea cucumber...
Nash was absorbed in carefully peeling crabs, placing the tender white meat into my plate after finishing a few crab legs.
"Vivienne, I was wrong before. Can you forgive me?"
I didn't speak, staring blankly at the crab meat on my plate.
When we were dating before, I had told him about my seafood allergy, but he forgot. That was bad enough.
Didn't I also mention it to him before this trip?
Hearing his first formal apology, I couldn't bring myself to feel happy at all.
"She's allergic!"
"Waiter, bring a bowl of millet porridge and some refreshing pickled vegetables!"
Levi took away the plate in front of me and grabbed a steaming bowl of millet porridge from the waiter's hands.
"You just had surgery not long ago, and you've been startled today. It's better to eat something light."
"Thank you." I gave him a grateful look.
My boyfriend of nearly ten years couldn't even compare to a senior classmate I'd only known for just over a year.
"Ungrateful bitch."
Nash cursed under his breath, then dumped the plate on the ground. Several stray dogs instantly scrambled to fight over it.
My heart sank even further as I watched Nash peel the crab roe portion and feed it directly into Zara's mouth.
Zara even deliberately stuck out her tongue, sensually licking Nash's finger.
I turned away in disgust, the warm millet porridge now tasting like cardboard in my mouth.
In the past, Nash would always eat whatever I was eating.
Never complaining, never choosing.
When asked, he'd say, "Whatever Vivienne loves to eat is what I love to eat, because I love Vivienne."
Apparently, it had all been an act.
My chest felt heavy and constricted, tears gradually blurring my vision and dripping into the millet porridge.
Under the table, out of sight from everyone else, Levi quietly slipped two tissues into my palm.
Nash was too busy chatting and laughing with Zara, constantly using words like "baby" and "sweetheart"...
