Chapter 16: Under the Mistletoe

Christmas was supposed to be a quiet night with just the two of us, but somehow, my mother got wind of our plans and insisted on dropping off some food. While she didn't stay long, her knowing smile and whispered, "Be good to her," left me flustered beyond belief.

As Mahiru and I settled in with hot cocoa, I noticed a small decoration hanging from the ceiling. My face instantly heated up.

"Mahiru… did you put that there?" I asked, pointing at the small sprig of mistletoe dangling just above us.

She followed my gaze and blinked in surprise. "Oh, I didn't realize… It must have been your mother."

I groaned, running a hand through my hair. My mother, the ultimate schemer. Mahiru, however, only giggled at my reaction.

"Well… isn't there something you're supposed to do under mistletoe?" she teased, her golden eyes sparkling mischievously.

I swallowed. Hard.

This girl was dangerous.

Gently, she leaned forward, brushing the softest kiss against my lips before pulling back with a coy smile. "Merry Christmas, Amane."

Yeah. Definitely dangerous.
