Chapter 91: The Ghosts of War

Chapter 91: The Ghosts of War

The deeper they ventured into the shipyard, the heavier the air became. Dust particles floated lazily in the dim light of the flickering emergency systems, giving the halls an eerie, forgotten quality. Every step Raizen took echoed down the long corridors, as if the station itself were alive, whispering remnants of the past.

Liana's voice crackled over comms. "Raizen, I'm detecting residual power sources deeper inside. Someone, or something, is still drawing energy."

"Then we're not alone," Kain muttered, his grip tightening on his rifle.

Raizen moved forward, his golden eyes scanning the corridor. His senses sharpened as his Draconic Bloodline stirred within him, alerting him to the faintest movements. They turned a corner and stopped.

Bodies. Rows of them.

Suspended in cryogenic stasis pods, dozens of figures floated lifelessly in a large chamber. Some had fully mechanical limbs, others were fused with cybernetics in grotesque experiments. Their flesh was pale, their bodies ravaged by modifications they never asked for.

Joran exhaled sharply. "What kind of hell was this place?"

Liana's fingers danced over a control panel, skimming through files. "This was a military-grade augmentation facility. Some kind of research on integrating machine and flesh to create the ultimate soldier."

Raizen examined one of the pods, his jaw tightening. "And they failed."

A sudden clank echoed from above. The team instinctively raised their weapons as the overhead vents rattled violently. Then, the silence shattered.

A figure dropped from the ceiling, landing just meters ahead of them. Unlike the mindless husk they had faced before, this one moved with calculated precision, its crimson optical sensors flashing with awareness.

"Hostile detected." The voice was distorted, mechanical yet chillingly human.

Raizen barely had time to react before the cybernetic soldier lunged, its arm splitting apart into a serrated blade, swinging for his throat.

Raizen sidestepped, his energy blade igniting mid-motion. Sparks flew as metal clashed against plasma, the force of the impact sending tremors through the floor.

Joran fired a shot, but the cybernetic warrior moved unnaturally fast, dodging with inhuman precision before slamming into Kain, sending him crashing into a control terminal.

Liana cursed. "It's combat-adaptive! It's learning from our attacks!"

Raizen narrowed his eyes. "Then I'll make sure it learns fear."

His Draconic Aura surged, a deep growl escaping his throat as he unleashed a devastating counterstrike. The moment their blades clashed again, he twisted his body, pivoting into a brutal downward slash—

The cybernetic warrior staggered, its torso splitting open as golden energy crackled through its body.

It screeched, not in pain, but in rage.

Then, all the pods in the room flickered to life.

One by one, the failed experiments began to awaken.

Liana paled. "Oh… that's not good."

Raizen exhaled sharply, gripping his blade tighter. "Time to clean up this mess."
