Chapter 134: Rising Tensions
The corvette streaked through hyperspace, its engines burning hot as it carved a path through the void. The escape had been successful, but the battle was far from over.
Raizen sat in the command chair, his golden eyes scanning the nav-screen. His body still pulsed with the lingering energy of his Draconic inheritance, a power that had changed him in ways he was only beginning to understand.
Nyx leaned against the console, watching him. "You're quiet."
Raizen exhaled. "A lot to think about."
She smirked. "You just awakened a power that hasn't been seen in centuries, fought off mercenaries, and now you're marked by a syndicate that doesn't let things go. Yeah, I'd say you have a lot on your plate."
Joran stretched in his seat. "Well, at least we didn't die."
Seraphina shot him a look. "That was not a guaranteed outcome."
Kain tapped at his rifle. "What's the plan? We can't just keep running."
Raizen's gaze hardened. "No, we can't. We need allies, resources, and a place to regroup."
Selara nodded. "There's a place. A neutral station on the edge of the Sovereign Expanse. No factions claim it, but it's crawling with people who trade in power and information."
Raizen met her gaze. "That's exactly what we need."
Trouble in Hyperspace
Just as he spoke, the ship's alarms blared to life.
Liana's voice crackled over the intercom. "We've got incoming!"
Raizen turned to the display. A massive shadow loomed behind them, a ship emerging from a cloaked position—a Syndicate Interdictor-class vessel.
Nyx cursed. "They're fast."
The ship's weapons charged, and a beam of energy disrupted their hyperspace tunnel, forcing them back into real space.
Raizen gritted his teeth. "Ready for combat!"
Joran cracked his knuckles. "Now this is what I call fun."
As the enemy ship closed in, Raizen's grip tightened on the controls. This fight would determine whether they lived to see their next move.
