The metal door slowly closed behind them with a heavy sound, signaling that they had fully entered a new phase. As the door shut, the light in the space dimmed, and only a few fluorescent lights flickered above, casting faint glows on the path ahead.
They followed the mysterious man deeper into a more complex environment. The hallway was flanked by enormous metal walls, adorned with buttons and blinking screens, each machine silently running in the background.
"What is this place?" Rex asked in a low voice, his eyes wary.
"This is the place we've prepared for you," the man replied, without looking back. "Welcome to the 'New World.'"
"New World?" Sophie's voice carried a hint of confusion. "What do you mean by that?"
The man finally stopped, turned around, and stared at them. "You're here not just to survive, but because you have the ability to be part of this. This is a new experimental ground, a testing field designed for the future of humanity."
"Experiment?" Adrian frowned. "We just want to survive, not be your test subjects."
The man's eyes flashed with a cold smile. "You misunderstand. This is not an experiment. This is the hope for the future, the opportunity for humanity to break past its current limits and be reborn. You will have the chance to rebuild society here, to redefine the fate of humanity."
Adrian paused, his mind swirling with conflicting thoughts. Rebuild society? Redefine fate? He had once thought of himself as just an ordinary survivor, but now he was caught up in what seemed like a grand plan. Was humanity's future truly worth fighting for, as the man claimed? He wasn't sure.
"What's next?" Rex broke the silence, his unease evident.
"Follow me." The man said nothing more, turning and leading them onward. As they moved forward, another large door appeared at the end of the hallway, with the number "X001" etched on it. The man pressed a button beside the door, which slid open to reveal an even larger space.
"This is the 'Initiation Area,'" the man turned back and explained. "Here, you will face your first trial, entering the deeper challenges."
"Trial?" Sophie's voice was filled with suspicion. "What is this place? What do you want us to do?"
The man didn't answer, only gestured toward the interior. As the door fully opened, Adrian saw a completely different world. Before them was a vast hall, filled with various equipment and screens. In the center of the hall was a transparent circular platform, on which several figures floated, seemingly undergoing some kind of experiment.
"This is your first choice," the man's voice echoed again, seeming to resonate throughout the vast space. "You will undergo testing, and only by passing the test will you gain the right to enter the deeper areas and obtain real power."
Adrian, Rex, and Sophie exchanged uncertain looks, their minds full of questions and unease. A test? This was the first time they had heard such a demand. Faced with the unknown before them, were they ready to accept the new challenge?
"What do we do?" Sophie whispered.
Adrian took a deep breath, gripping his weapon tightly. "We have no choice but to move forward."
They stepped into the unknown, their hearts filled with both nervousness and anticipation. No matter what the future held, Adrian knew that everything from this point on would decide their fate.
