The room was quiet, but Liora's mind wasn't.
She sat across from Atlas, her knees pulled slightly together as she rested her hands on her lap. Her fingers twitched unconsciously, almost like they were responding to her inner turmoil.
"I've thought about it again and again," Atlas said, rubbing the back of his neck and then folding his arms as he leaned back against the wall. "But nothing seems to work. No matter how I try to approach this, he's always one step ahead."
Liora looked at him quietly. The silence between them stretched longer than it should have, but it was not uncomfortable. It was heavy.
"He's not from this planet," Atlas finally added. His voice dropped lower, as if even the walls had ears. "Kazren is from the Spire and I am also."
