Ch 21 : Garlos Nicolatel

The long staircase spiraled straight downward into complete darkness, with no lighting tools in sight.

Noel conjured a floating orb of light using magic, illuminating his surroundings.

The walls on both sides of the stairway were adorned with murals and ancient writings.

As he descended, Noel carefully examined these depictions and inscriptions.

Had it been anyone else, even the most knowledgeable archaeologist, they would have struggled to decipher these cryptic symbols, as they were the writings of the Age of the Gods, dating back thousands of years.

However, as a member of that family, Noel could understand the meaning behind these words.

(Divine Era, Year 424… The Moon Goddess took in the demon Tonis, who had been abandoned by the Demon God for his unwillingness to kill due to his kind heart. Grateful for the Moon Goddess's shelter, Tonis swore to guard the Moon Goddess's temple for generations. From then on, a branch of the demon race became the protectors of Moon Goddess Island… Divine Era, Year 737… The God King of Light abandoned his engagement with the Goddess of the Night and instead married the Moon Goddess… Divine Era, Year 463… The Goddess of the Night waged war against the God King of Light, but she was ultimately defeated and fell… Divine Era, Year 632… The apocalypse began. Triggered by the war between the God King of Light and the Goddess of the Night, the War of the Gods erupted. Within merely two months, the gods of both the Light and Dark factions engaged in full-scale conflict… Divine Era, Year 1732… The heavens and earth collapsed. The gods… died…)

The final record ended abruptly with the three words: The gods died. After that, there was no further inscription.

Noel gazed at the ancient words denoting God King of Light and Goddess of the Night, remaining silent for a long while.

Eventually, he let out a sigh, discarding the thoughts in his mind. (These things… have nothing to do with the current me anymore. There's no need to overthink.)

After roughly ten minutes of descending, a sudden light appeared before him.

A door stood in his path, with faint beams of light seeping through the gaps.

Yet, Noel narrowed his eyes and did not enter immediately.

Instead, he crouched down, observing the ground.

(Just as I thought… The moment I saw the door was slightly ajar, I suspected someone had already been here. And judging by these footprints, they arrived about ten minutes before me.)

His mind raced. (Strange… How did they get in? Could they have used a spell that allows them to phase through walls? Something like Phase Magic?)

Slowing his pace, Noel held his breath, suppressing his presence as much as possible while carefully approaching the door.

Peering through the gap, even someone as composed as Noel couldn't help but suck in a sharp breath.

The entire room—floor, walls, and even the ceiling—was made of rare blue sapphire.

Embedded in the ceiling were dozens of luminous orbs emitting a soft glow, adding a touch of radiance to the chamber.

Although Noel had little knowledge of jewelry, he could still tell that these orbs were made of an extraordinary material.

The mere fact that they had retained their brilliance since the Age of the Gods spoke volumes about their value.

The first impression this room gave was that of a vast starry sky—empty yet breathtaking.

Even someone like Noel, who had little concept of wealth, could instantly recognize that this chamber itself was an immense treasure.

(What an extravagant display... Truly the work of those filthy capitalists—wait, no, this world doesn't even have a word for 'capitalist,' does it? Should I call them filthy rich instead??)

Noel shook his head, dismissing the odd thoughts that crept into his mind, and refocused his attention on the room.

Inside, there were three doors. At this moment, the door on the right was already open, while the middle and left doors remained untouched.

Narrowing his eyes, Noel mused, (So the intruder has only just entered the first room? Well then, let's see who this mysterious guest is.)

A smirk of interest played at the corners of his lips.

No longer bothering to conceal his presence, he directly pushed open the door.

Just as Noel stepped inside, a dark figure happened to emerge from the open doorway within the room.

It was a young man with amber eyes and brown hair, strikingly handsome and seemingly around Noel's age.

He wore a black jacket over a red shirt, paired with deep blue trousers.

However, what stood out most at this moment was the look of surprise frozen on his face.

"You—who are you? Why are you here?"

Noel wasted no time with pleasantries and asked the question directly.

The young man awkwardly rubbed his nose and then, to Noel's surprise, placed his right hand over his chest and gave a respectful bow.

Then, he spoke.

"I never expected to run into you while carrying out that person's orders, Your Majesty, Nord."

The moment Noel heard that name, his pupils shrank sharply.

In the next instant, before the young man could even react, Noel's figure flashed at an incomprehensible speed, appearing directly in front of him.

With a single hand, Noel clamped down on the young man's throat.

"Speak. Where did you hear that name?" Noel's voice was chillingly cold, an extremely rare sight.

The usual warmth in his demeanor had vanished, replaced by a sharp and menacing aura.

"Cough, cough—" The young man coughed twice, struggling briefly before letting out a bitter chuckle.

"Apologies, but I can't tell you that right now. Otherwise, that person wouldn't hesitate to kill me for breaking the rules."

"If you don't talk, you're dead right now." Noel's voice was utterly merciless.

Yet, despite the murderous intent pressing down on him, the young man remained completely calm.

Instead, a faint smile appeared on his face.

"Your Majesty Nord, no offense, but... you cannot kill me right now."

As soon as he finished speaking, his body vanished from Noel's grasp, reappearing several meters away.

"Spatial magic?" Noel murmured in surprise as he stared at his now-empty hand.

"Correct," the young man admitted without hesitation, his expression carrying a hint of amusement.

"Forgive me, Your Majesty Nord, but I have no desire to fight you. I've already obtained what I came for, so I'll take my leave now."

The moment he finished speaking, his body began to disintegrate, scattering into countless fragments that vanished into the void.

Just before he completely disappeared, as if suddenly remembering something, the young man's voice echoed once more.

"Oh, right—almost forgot to introduce myself. My name is Garlos Nicolatel, holder title "Void", as one of the Seven Thrones, under the Demon God's Soul Guild, and one of the four great powers of the Balam Alliance."

Noel stood there silently, making no attempt to stop the other party from leaving.

He knew it would be completely meaningless.

A user of Lost Magic: Spatial Magic, if determined to escape, was nearly impossible to stop—unless one possessed a very specific kind of magic to counter it.

(How does he know that name? And judging by his tone, he seems to know me very well… Just what is going on?)

Everyone who knew that name should already be dead.

Could there have been a survivor from that time?

But if that were the case, there's no way that Garlos would have spoken to me with such respect…

What exactly is happening here?

Noel's mind was in turmoil, thoughts flashing through his head one after another, only to be dismissed just as quickly.

(The Demon God's Soul Guild, one of the four major factions of the Balam Alliance…? I'll have to investigate that dark guild when I get back.)

However, he wasn't optimistic.

Even within the underworld, Demon God's Soul was considered the most mysterious of all dark guilds.

Up until now, even the Council's intelligence had only uncovered a single piece of information:

The Demon God's Soul Guild had seven top figures known as the Seven Thrones.

Beyond that—

Their leader, their headquarters, their membership count, and even the abilities of the Seven Thrones themselves…

All of it remained completely unknown.
