1712 (14th Year)

A year past since Edward and Caroline got married.

Emmett Scott, Caroline's father, was enraged by the fact that his daughter married to "a dog of the likes of William Penn". However, he could no longer do anything about his daughter's marriage.

He wanted to control the Bristolian commerce and secure a prestigious alliance with Aubrey Hague by marrying his daughter to Hague's son, but everything came to naught due to Caroline's 'actions'.

'In due time...' Emmett thought as he drank a small amount of liquor while on a balcony, observing a drunk blonde on a tavern near Bedminster, 'That dog will soon leave this city and go privateering with his scorny dream...'

He was observing a six-foot Edward Kenway who was drinking his problems away, 'I will make sure my daughter will leave that drunkard one day... thankfully, my younger daughter's filial.'

"Now, back to where we discussed..."

"Yes, the..."

Emmett discussed with a couple of high-ranking Templars after glancing at Edward's drunk state for the last time. Not noticing a dark haired Reuben just on the roof, on top of the balcony, gathering intel while guarding the drunk Edward.

'Why did I have to do this task...'

---

"Hey..."

"Hello 'Laric..."

"May I come in? As you see... it's drizzling."

"Yes, please... have you... have you seen Edward?"

"Yeah, drinking..." Alaric replied while taking off his cloak and straw hat.

"Ah... again..." Caroline got sadly was still soft about it as she offered Alaric a seat, while the now very tall Alaric thanked her and sat down. "He promised me he'd never touch booze again..."

"Did he say anything work-related?" Alaric asked as he looked at Caroline who looked really sad, he then stared awkwardly as Caroline's tears fell down from her eyes.

"Y-Yes... p-privateering, he said," Caroline sobbed as Alaric continued to listen patiently. "He... I can't... it's too much."

"..."

"Wouldn't pay so nice if it weren't, he said..." Caroline repeated what Edward said to her during their last conversations. "Why can't he just..."

"Why can he not simply be content with staying here, in Bristol, with me?"

"Why is his pride so great that he refuses to remain connected with you... his own family?"

"Why… just why?"

Alaric continued staying silent for a while as Caroline stayed sobbing.

After a minute passed and Caroline finally calmed down a little, Alaric took a small linen towel and handed it to her. "Here..."

"...Thank you."

"Caroline... are you able to wait for Edward?" Alaric paused staring at Caroline who was busy wiping her tears and drippy nose, then continued, "A lad like him... he has high ambitions, it's not an ambition that can be stopped." 'Unless I pound him to the ground, of course... but anyways.'

"..."

"..."

"I... I'm afraid," Caroline replied, looking down at her hands trying to comfort herself, "As he said, privateering is a dangerous life..."

"Yes... but believe me when I tell you this," Alaric got up from his seat and knelt beside Caroline, putting a hand on her shoulder, "He will not die, he will come back here... and if there comes a time where you cannot take it anymore, I'll take you to him... and by that time, You... Edward... and that little girl inside of you will live prosperously."

"H-How did you..." Caroline could only widen her eyes as she kept it a secret from everyone, only keeping to herself. "How did you know?"

"Don't worry," Alaric smiled and stood up, leaving a huge pouch, then started walking towards the door outside. "When Edward boards his ship, settle in the Kenway Estate... I'll help you pack your things."

"B-But... they hate me..."

"Hate you? Says who?" Alaric's voice became a little loud as he smirked, "Unc' and aunt Linette have been wanting to meet you again, you should visit your in-laws, y'know."

"...R-Really?"

"...Th-Thank you, 'Laric!"

Seeing as Alaric finally went outside, Caroline finally felt most of the weight on her shoulders being lifted away. 'Thank you, 'Laric... you've given me the strength to keep believing in Edward…'

Outside, Alaric could be seen leaning on wall beside the door as the drizzle became stronger, turning into rain.

'Damned bastard, if I weren't such a good looking and loving cousin, I would've just let you eat a cattle's shit and throw you on a cliff...'

'Jesting...'

He chuckled and shook his head as Edward could be seen dead drunk, carried by Reuben who was annoyed as they were being washed by the rain.

"Report..." Reuben stated monotonously, making the blonde chuckle.

"Drop him off first, then let's go back to the estate," Alaric replied, making Reuben nod with a straight face.

Reuben immediately opened the front door with Edward on his shoulder, surprising Caroline.

"Huh? Oh... Reuben! Here..." Caroline widened her eyes but recovered as soon as she recognized Reuben and immediately motioned for the black-haired man to drop Edward to the bed. "There you go... thanks."

"Yeah, slap him next time yeah?" Reuben nodded and joked a little, "A little more booze to add the weight on his stomach and I wouldn't have been able to carry him here."

"Yeah... I just hope he won't do it again next time... but still, thank you… truly," Caroline smiled softly, making Reuben nod in response.

As Reuben got out, he could see Alaric patiently waiting while the ends of his straw hat were hit by the rain drops.

"Let's go..."

"Let's..."

As they were walking within Clifton, Alaric couldn't help but think of one thing.

'Does this mean that fate is real? Edward would be a privateer then would be a pirate next, then an Assassin... but if so, how would it be? I can prevent the deaths of the Kenway family, fire on the Kenway Estate? Pfft, please.'

Alaric was lost in thought as they walked passed by the Penn Estate. 'If Emmett does send his men to cause fire in this Estate... I wish him luck.'

He shook his head as they were finally on the huge gates of the Kenway Estate, the rain finally died down. 'You're gonna tease my like that, aye? Tsk.'

"Report?" Reuben who was silent during their walk finally opened his mouth as they got in the mansion.

"After I take a bath," Alaric smiled, making Reuben shake his head and proceeded to also take bath of his own.

'Why's he becoming so grumpy lately? I didn't even train them that hard... I guess he needs a wife...'

'Yeah... I'm right.'
